The Matrix - regraded, v2.0
#71
Sleep? SLEEP?!? AH AH AH!!!

Ehr... back to topic; banding is mainly due (I think) to the fact I encoded at only 10mbps, veryfast, 1 pass; I'm pretty sure that with the proper bitrate AND a grain plate, it would not be there (or, at least, not so noticeably).
Artefact: sure, they are there, and could be cured only using another matching script, like in the following

BD regraded as film, test clip 2 (9m50s, AVC 10mbps 1080p, AC-3 5.1 384kbps from LD):

waiting for feedbacks, don't want to spoil...

Looks great! Banding still there a little, but artifacts gone. Smile

Looks good; the flickering highlights are gone.
It should be more green to match the 35mm. This is especially noticeable with the opening computer text, which is more blue in your version compared to the 35mm, but most of the following scenes are also somewhat more green in the 35mm.

Also, the one shot of Trinity holding up her hands has brighter highlights in the 35mm.

I tried everything, but I can have closer colors/contrast to film and artefacts, or no artefacts but colors/contrast less close...

I don't think boosting the green would introduce banding or anything (you could do it after the color matching script). Look at your version's opening text compared to the 35mm. (Or any subsequent scenes. The blue lights are should be closer to teal, and the neutral colors should have a grey tint.)

If he heightens the green overall, I can imagine the rest will be out of whack towards green-ish, as the color matching would be more difficult for such tiny parts of the image, whereas it would probably me more accurate for normal images. (just guessing tho)

Actually, the second version has less green faces, that is not a bad compromise, after all...
Maybe the best would be to use first as main source, and second for replacement parts, but it will take a lot of time and effort... not ready to (redo) this!

Just use the 2nd and increase the green overall. The whole sequence needs it, not just specific scenes. Cutting together the two different versions isn't needed, as the first one still isn't green enough and contains all the highlight errors. (and you want green faces, as they did introduce the green deliberately, it's just less of a blanket tint then the bluray).

This is shaping up to look really great. Thanks for doing it!

The police cars lights should be red and blue not orange. Just saying, you might be able to fix it all based on this. Don't pay attention to the fleshtones it's The Matrix.

Hmm, perhaps you could use the color detail from the first and the luma detail from the second?
