[Proposal] Die Hard 2 - colour grading
#11
Die Hard and Die Hard 2 make a great christmas double bill. It's an old school sequel, same people different place, more violence more swearing.
The original three films were supposedly all restored together, with Die Hard getting a 4K master and the other two a 2K master. I have no idea if they have been shown theatrically but if any recent screenings were from a DCP it could be a new master. I'm hoping they 'slip out' like the first Die Hard.
I remember the old BBFC title on VHS cassettes, some films had them, others would have Simon Bates (DJ) telling you the film's classification and what you can expect ('the mildest of swear words').
The Blu of Die Hard 2 definitely has a red bias compared to other releases, I wonder why?

I don't know if there is one release that is correct. I think the shifts started with the SE DVD and the BD seems to dial that back a bit. Personally I prefer the look of the LDs.

I love 2. It was the first of the series I saw and despite retreading it is never dull and is the only sequel with the same gritty tone of the original. I like 3 and 4 but only the first two feel like Die Hard.

I would never say its the best Die Hard movie. 3 is much better and 1 is one of the greatest action films ever made. But it is a fun watch and has its charm. Far better then 4 and 5. At least this was a time when Willis still cared.

100%

3 was like an answer to 'Speed', probably the greatest 'Die Hard' offshoot.

All of the movies playing on the 'Die Hard' formula forgot how funny the original piece is, much like all the Tarantino rip offs.

DH2 always has been badly mastered, check out the trailers for the real look of the film.

Ok guys, I have my French laserdisc captured. PM me for the link and hurry up because it will expire in 7 days! Smile

Please note that the file is pretty compressed due to my upload speed being sucky.

Also it's fun to remember that this was the biggest budget film at the time, and now he directs stuff like Skiptrace

Lots of love for DH2 Smile

All of them need remasters but I would contend that Die Hard 3 never looked good on any medium. Far worse then 1 and 2 that still looked very weak. I wonder if it was just the way it was shot.

Thanks waterslides. Very different then the BD or US LDs I have. I'm not working on this as a project but I want to run some test between your LD, the US LD and the BD. BTW I just noticed the BD has a modern fox logo...
