[In progress] Prometheus - open matte
#1
Well, it is part of the Alien saga after all, so why not?

There is an HDTV open matte version that I'm pretty sure to wipe out logo almost perfectly; but there are few shots - mainly after the commercial breaks, but also other instances during the movie - where there are annoying "pop-ups" that could be fixed only in two ways: replacing the shots with the corresponding Blu-ray one, or find another open matte source.

Sadly is not possible to use the BD ony to cover part of the image, as the pop-ups takes all the inferior part of the image, including one that is not available on BD... so, the only viable way is to use the whole BD image, cropping it to be fullscreen.

Second option is way better, and it will help also to get perfect logo removal; but I'm not sure if it could be found anywhere - there is at least a Plus HD capture around: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/179680
*Maybe* some other HDTV broadcasting could be open matte as well, but there are several which are just OAR.

2017-12-04 RELEASED! https://fanrestore.com/thread-1891.html

The WEB DL 1080p that I have is completely identical to the 1HD broadcast, but there are not any logos and advertising inserts in it, although the title of the film is also in Russian.

It would be great to combine both sources to get a near-BD quality open matte version!

Thanks a lot maksnew!!! Ok

Because you were so kind to provide the needed source fastest than speed of light Wink I think that the minimum I could do to thank you is to pause other projects and go with this; I'd say it could be ready in few days, if everything would go well.

Stay tuned, guys!

Well I was going to do this myself but it seems more in your wheelhouse spoRv. I recorded the transport stream off the US station FXX. If you want it I can upload it also

It'd be even better, at least in my opinion, if we could get both eyes of the 3D image for the open matte version.

PDB: thanks, a third source would be welcome, the more, the merrier... Big Grin
Jokes aside, the HDTV, apart logo and pop-ups, is very very good, while WEBdl is perfect without logos or pop-ups (of course) but lacks tiny details and grain... so, adding a third player could make the match even more interesting; did this with HP 6, and quality improved quite noticeably.

Koopa: elaborate, please... there is no 3D open matte version AFAIK.

What I'm basically saying is, considering the film was shot in 3D we're only getting half the open matte image with each (obviously 2D) broadcast. What I'm eager to know is, which half on any particular broadcast. (Sometimes, the image gives you clues as to which eye you're viewing; this was particularly blatant in the 3D movies of the '80s, where it was often obvious from the start which eye was used for that particular print; for example, the old VHS cassettes of Friday the 13th Part III, Jaws 3D, Metalstorm, and Parasite all used the left eye, while Spacehunter used the right eye, which is to my knowledge the only eye made available individually for that one on my side of the pond.)

Unless two versions (left and right eyes) exist - and I don't think so - I don't see the point to know which eye version is available, out of mere curiosity; are you aware of any title that has those two versions? It would be a nice project to put them together, but I suspect none exists...
