[Request] Conan The Destroyer (1984) LaserDisc or DVD Mono
#1
The Blu-ray didn't come with it's original mono mix in english.
However it's available on the US DVD and on LaserDisc (Jap/USA). So I'm asking
if someone who has either, LaserDisc preferred, could please share the
audio. It would be also useful to have the video from the version, to help
with syncing it to the Blu-ray.

As for the 5.1 mix on the BD, it's okay for what it is. However you can hear
the mono origins, as voices and SFX bleed into the surround channel. I'd say
that the original mono mix will be a much more pleasing listening experience.

Thanks in advance

There's a UK blu-ray by High Fliers that uses the same HD master on the Universal and TCF and is not only uncut (most likely by accident or no one wanting to do a BBFC resubmission as prior UK releases obviously trimmed a horsefall), but also sports the mono mix. However,, I don't know if it's the original or a downmix of the 5.1, but it would be seriously worth checking out if it's of any use.

I also heard the 5.1 mixes run at a lower pitch in comparison to the mono track. What I believe happened was the 5.1 may have been prepped for a PAL MGM DVD release which underwent a special PAL sped up conversion that not only increases the rate 4%, but kept the 24fps pitch the same instead being pitched higher as with usual PAL speedups. Then when that PAL sourced 5.1 was readjusted to sync to use with the 1080p24 encode for the BD, they probably did a standard slow down from 25>24 but forgot to adjust the pitch accordingly thus making everyone including the female characters sound like giants or something.

I did a mixdown to mono flac in VLC with a lot of the 5.1 remixes
works fine though sometimes it can go out of sync at the end

Keep in mind that many of these 5.1 mixes make drastic changes to the sound design or sync of effects, sometimes missing sounds completely that were present in the original mix.

It's this Blu-ray (amazon link).

According to dvdcompare it's also lossless. The question is if it's real mono or just a 5.1 down conversion  Confused

Update

Today I received the UK Blu-ray from High Fliers.
Audio is indeed Mono Big Grin
A major upgrade over the crappy 5.1 remix.

I think I still have the old DVD somewhere.

The 1992 Japanese LD has digital audio, but ebay sellers are asking way too much for it!

I did find a domestic pressing, mistakenly listed as the original film for ten bucks plus shipping.
