On MI i actually used a Cont of 0.85 (not 0.8, if I said that, I'm sorry) and Sat 0.9 and leaving the brightness at default. I got that contrast setting from the German forum but on there they had the Sat at 0.95 which I felt seemed to colourful in a couple of the scenes including restaurant and interrogation so took your original advice of 0.9. It's not perfect due to the crazy nature of the color timing (scene specific color timing would need to be performed in Premiere or Resolve and by a competent colourist which I am certainly not), but is what I settled on and the majority of retail blurays using 4k remasters are on the dark side so am fine with it. Your setting of Cont 1.1 I find personally on the bright side , similar to vivid setting on a tv and having Sat at 1.2 on my Cont setting would make the majority of scenes look even more colourful (although on your Cont setting they appear ok from the screenshots). Everyone has there preference so if your happy with them settings stick with them, it's nice to hear your opinion.

There are times where I don't agree with the Cont setting's on the German forum as well including Patriot Games where they settled on 0.8 which I found much to dark and settled on 0.98 (as they did on CAPD Cont 0.98 and Sat 1.00) and a Sat of 1.05.

I would be happy to hear your settings on the first two Mummy movies if you get around to them as I can't seem to settle on any.

Not sure if you've seen it but there is another software called HDR Tools which supposedly also uses the HDR parameters to convert to SDR along with alot more individual colour tweaks and other complicated settings which at the moment is a little over my head.

Actually, for Mission: Impossible, it's the other way around: my contrast is 1.2 and my sat is 1.1. Just like on Paramount Red October. The increase in contrast makes the increase in saturation to not look too much, it seems.



I made a test on the first 15 minutes of X-Men using your Predator settings as it is a Fox release, still to check my theory of applying the same settings within releases from the same studio:

For your Mummy movies, being Universal, I'd try my Gladiator settings maybe. Or I'd try to match the E.T. UHD to its Blu-ray counterpart and then apply the same settings to the Mummy.

Yea, X-Men looking pretty good. Re: your MI settings, so you increased the Cont to 1.2, too bright for my tastes but as said if your happy, that's all that matters.

Thanks for the advice about your Gladiator settings been used for the Mummy movies, I'll try them and see but think I already tried Cont 0.9 and it looked to little too dark but with your other tweaks may change my opinion. Someone also did Gladiator Extended over on the German forum using Hue 0 Sat 1.15 Bright 0 and Cont 0.95. I'll try both and see.

When it come to saturation, Gladiator is pushing the limits (and sometimes even shooting past them) of what's safe even with the default settings.  I'd be wary of bumping saturation up to the 1.15; that's a significant increase for something that's already pretty saturated.

The screenshots posted looked ok but I'm sure you are right and I think for the Mummy movies which is what I want to use the settings on, it will be way to much saturation as well but more interested in seeing how the Cont of 0.95 will look with them.

I think I'll go with that last tweaking (hue=0,sat=1.25,bright=0,cont=1.07): it keeps white enough names on the opening credits and keeps most of the pattern on the lampshade, plus the saturation makes it less bland. Maybe I'll revisit Red October with these tweakings.

Looking good, as said I decided on Cont 0.98 and Sat 1.05 as my sweet spot. Prefer the darker look more associated with 4k masters. The German forum decided on Cont 0.80 which I found way to dark (the ending scenes bordered on black crush) where as at default Cont 1.0 just a tad to bright so settled on 0.98. As far as Sat, I think the movie has always been quite bland (similar to the majority of CAPD) although at default just a little to much so went with 1.05. I'll have a go with your settings just to see how it looks at my end when I get around to it in case I like it.

Contrast at 0.98 wouldn't do it for me, as I'm already borderline not having white names on the opening credits. Regarding saturation, it's because I went further in contrast that I had to compensate colorwise, 'cause if not, it looks too dull.
I don't have Clear and Present Danger yet, so I'll look into it sometime in the future. My next tests will be on A Few Good Men, X-Men 2, The Lost World and The Big Lebowski.
