Black Bars Subtitle file for Transformers: The Last Knight in 4K
#1
Question
I don't know how to make a subtitle stream in PGS format that has black bars as subtitles.
If someone can please create them for the movie Transformers: The Last Knight, I'd appreciate it.

The constant shifting in aspect ratio is just very annoying. I'd rather view it in a constant ratio.

Would the subs need to be mastered for 4K or is that irrelevant?

#update#

largest aspect ratio looks like 2.29:1 - taking screenshots from the blu-ray and then cropping the black bars
gave a res of 1920x840px

so for uhd the black bars should be for a aspect ratio of 3840x1680px

Lost this thread... dunno about UHD-BD (read: if the subs are the same and will work on free soft player), but I can do it for BD; just tell me the exact lenght, the framerate and the actual frame size (1920x840?)

I have not the 4K version, but just the HD one; made the subs for it (with active frame at 1920x840px), tested the file and it works well with MPC-BE.

2160p is not recognized as a valid resolution for .sup subtitles (at least, not using BDSupEdit), so I was not able to produce such file; I tested it simulating UHD with a simple avisynth script (just load 1080p file and upscale it to 2160p), and it works as well, always with MPC-BE.

If you're playing on PC, you could just use the crop function almost every player has.

Yep, but any movie has different AR... so, a YAO sub track should be mandatory for any full open matte/IMAX movie! Happy

Fair enough. At least VLC has a few different Crop settings, see picture:

I guess there might be a few cases that still aren't perfectly covered by these, but I don't imagine it's a lot.

Yep, I guess this cover maybe 99% of the cases... but think about that poor 1%! Big Grin
