[Request] They Live! 35mm (edit)
#1
Hello,
im a huge fan of this movie. Some Months ago, i wrote the the Carpenter Fanbase to ask them, if there is any chance they will release a 35mm Edit or something similar of their movie. Sadly they couldn't help me.

Are there any future plans of doing a 35mm edit of this Movie here on FANRES by someone? Im pretty sure, many ppl want to enjoy this Movie in a near cinema atmosphere.

Thank you

Jon

Hi JonNada.

What needs to be done the the current bluray masters (I believe they are the best thing to work from in terms of video resolution) to give them the 35mm cinema atmosphere? And are there any examples of what the 35mm print looks like?

Do you know what the preferred sound options available are that best replicates the Theatrical Audio?

Sorry if it's alot of questions, I know little about how this was presented Theatrically good sir.

Welcome JonNada.

Yeah I don't quite follow what you mean by 'edit'. Do you mean obtaining a film print and getting it scanned or taking one of the existing bluray masters and making it more film-like?

Also what is this Carpenter Fanbase

Hey Guys!

I made a short clip from Ghostbusters Movie which i own in a 35mm preservation/edit.

In terms of Quality the SHOUT! Bluray Master is the best Release so far on the market for the Movie They Live!

I wonder if someone here can create an edit from They Live! Bluray which is similar in terms of scratches and all those effects a not cleaned 35mm roll got?

You should check out the Italian blu-ray - it's far more 'film-like' that the Shout edition which has a lot of nasty digital effects:

By the way, there's a 4k remaster coming either later this year or next according to an article on blu-ray.com..

@alexpeden2000 Thanks for the heads up on the 4K remaster (and the Italian BR).

@JohnNada Do you have any editing software experience (Adobe Premiere Pro ect)? as I could probably show you how to do what you want to do yourself Smile
And like zoidberg inquired, what is the 'Carpenter Fanbase' you contacted?

Gonna see this in 35mm at the Alamo Drafthouse in a few weeks. Should I take notes regarding color timing and such?

I think you need an LD or the first DVD release to own the original mix, which is way superior to ulterior remixes

If you feel its o.k to do so Smile
I would not want anybody to ruin there experience watching the film.

I'm a huge fan of this film but have never seen it Theatrically.
The only John Carpenter film I caught at the cinema is 'Escape from L.A'!
