I haven't checked them fully, just a glimpse. I'm sure I'll use them as basis, but I'll do them from scratch.

That would be cool, Stamper, for the audio at least. As of right now, I'm using the YouTube original audio in AAC stereo, 'cause Sam's reconstruction is mono apparently.

Addition: Are you ready for this? I put the DVD-R on, and it's the full film with a menu and with the Derrick vs Superman 15mn short film Extra!
The audio is LPCM!
I remember now, this was a DVDR made in the inner circle of Canal+, the way they shared the film between themselves.
So you won't get closer to the master than this. The menu even have some jokes as each film is tagged "Le Flim".

Well, if you can share the whole DVD with me, that would be very cool.

PM later as I'm upping it right now.
I think this was given to me either by Hazanivicius or Mézerette. I completely forgot because I was probably drunk when that happened.
I just watched it a couple of times, and filed it with other DVDr in my CD section.
I just stumbled on this as I'm cleaning off the shelves right now, and making room throwing out useless stuff.

I've made some progress. I'm at 19 minutes, about 26%. It's coming together.

There! Today I reached the 50% line, even 52%. Now there are a few shots I won't be able to do by myself, but ilovewaterslides already has offered his help. I also started to use DNR on All the President's Men scenes to, hopefully, obtain something that blends in better, since it's a large part of the whole thing and interacts with many other movies, but as it turns out, I don't really like the smoothing of it. So I'll have to redo those shots without the DNR. I also have the option to use a HDTV recording that uses another master that's smoother and less film-like. I think I'll do both. I also used DNR for the Orson Welles scene, and I'll probably go back on that, too.

Cool Beber! So will you include both audio tracks (mono + stereo)?

I just might, but I'll need some help to resynchronize the PCM mono. I'm not an audio guy. You?
I still don't know what the stereo source is, but it really sounds like stereo, especially when listening with headphones.

According to what I read, a re-rip was made in the middle 00 from the beta tape.
Perhaps the DVD was mono to blend the sound, or made mono for early TV airings, and then later they went back and ripped the beta which was stereo.
Sycing shouldn't be a problem if you kept the exact frames from the master. All we need is a point of sync and align.

I work in sync with the stereo version. An initial delay won't suffice, it seems, to match the mono to it. There is apparently a few frame discrepancy within the flim.
I'll tell you where and provide both versions when it's time.
