Audio - HD video with SD inserts?
#1
Hi All,

Just wondered what people tend to do in this scenario?

I've got a blu ray with DTS HD 5.1 and there are few missing SD scenes from the unrated DVD that I want to upconvert and add in that have Dolby Digital 5.1.

I can convert both to wav, edit together then rebuild the DTS file, but I'm conscious there will be a noticeable difference in sound during the SD inserts. The other option is to drop the DTS track and just use the Dolby Digital track for the entire thing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Just try it with the DTS track. Maybe you just add one Scene in on the DTS Track, and then check how noticable the difference is.
If it is too much in your opinion, then go for the Dolby Digital track option.

Don't underestimate the power of Dolby Digital... Big Grin

Jokes apart, I think that few seconds (minutes?) of DD audio inserted into a DTS track (even HD MA) will surely be less noticed than HD -> SD upscaled.

Agreed, so long as the levels are consistent it should fit in just fine.

Right, forget to mention it - thanks zoidberg! Usually DTS (non HD) has higher levels, so take this in account.

On top of what the others said, you can do an EQ match to make the frequency spectrum sound similar in both.

Hi TomArrow,

How would I go about doing this out of interest? Can it be done through something like Audacity or does it need a more specialised program?

Thanks

iZotope can do it and there are various VST plugins for other software that do this
