btw the DTS stereo on the UHD is out of sync. You'll have to add a +53ms delay to it to match up with the original lower bitrate track on the bluray.

Some relatives I have have an Asian DVD of Scarface in DD 4.0. And it's NTSC.
Too bad I can't borrow discs from them. But it may be available in Asia. It should be in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.

They don't have working DVD players anymore, or PCs with disc drives. Even if they have a boatload of DVDs there. I can't even go there and bring a laptop with a DVD drive, because I don't have one.

You can get a USB DVD drive for almost nothing nowadays. Although tbh you might as well spend more and get something to rip UHDs.
Sorry for the necrobump but I have acquired a copy of the original 4.0 but it has seemingly been encoded with the either the incorrect channel mapping or something else, this layout doesn't look like the usual LCRS stereo and resembles LRLsRs quadraphonic more. Perhaps this mix is meant to be in this format but I have no idea.
![]() Also going back to Stamper's old claim of the center channel being "doctored" (whatever that means). It seems that entire DTS 5.1 track from the Anniversary Edition is decoded from a matrixed stereo source, it's also worth noting the LFE on it is entirely blank. I think this track isn't a remix at all and is rather a decode from a stereo source to a more modern channel layout. The center channel thing *might* be true as the surround channels have weird bits missing in their spectrograms. BTW if anyone has this DVD it syncs to the 4K Master with a 83ms delay if you want a quick and dirty discrete OG mix. ![]() Edit: Nevermind the center channel thing is definitely not true, when I folded the surround channels together into one mono track the spectrogram was complete fixed

some torrent on the internet, again I believe the AE DVD DTS 5.1 is a more accurate rendering of the track and probably the best sounding on since its NTSC half-rate DTS instead of PAL Dolby Digital
Hello.
I'm about to watch the UHD of this and I wanted to ask this: First of all, I didn't know the DTS:X has new SFX so that is out of the question. (after all, I sampled a bit and it sounds quite different than the other DTS 2.0). Now, about that DTS 2.0. I have a DENON AVR-S770H (Center spread option is disabled). When I select that track, my receiver automatically goes to DTS surround, and engages all speakers, but, I don't hear dialogue only from the center speaker, but it bleeds to the others as well. The other options I have to select in my receiver are: Stereo Dolby Surround DTS + Neural:X DTS + Virtual:X Multi Ch Stereo Mono Movie But even if I chose that Dolby Surround mode or the next one, I still hear dialogue from all speakers. So, what do I do now? I usually have this problem with Dolby 2.0 tracks when I try to hear the surround sound. But not all. e.g. I didn't have any problem with Criterion's The Prince of Tides (DTS-HD MA 2.0 track decoded perfectly to 5.1, meaning I heard dialogue only from the center speaker) and A League of their Own UHD (same)

I'm pretty sure the DTS 2.0 track on the UHD has it's channels flagged as Lt Rt so it should be kicking your receiver into the correct mode.
Try some of these out and see if you notice any bleeding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18F4MVV3NGo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCilCpOKDpE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H--Q_KKel54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYfqaWSZiuk When I think my pro logic decoding isn't working, I run these through my Pioneer VSX-835 in Dolby Surround mode and they always end up playing exactly how are supposed to. |
