Rambo trilogy original mixes & color timing

I managed to get I and II: they did fix the off-center shots I noticed before in II

I believe the black border was used for the sound mix for film prints, etc. (IIRC, the OCN usually retain the offsets [i.e. edges of the frames to be cropped to fill in the soundtrack])

That is where these topics come into play:

Track Scatter (misaligned tracks)
Cutting Aparture Plates (filing down by Head-projectionist)
White Balance

No, the black border, unless I'm mistaken, is always on the left side of the picture. Either the scope image we see is not complete, and they forgot to properly reframe the shots, or it was shot scope with a wider left and right coverage (like The Great Escape) with intent to only use 2.39:1 part of the frame.

Does anyone have LD audio captures for First Blood and Rambo III? I am wondering how they compare to the LD 2.0 tracks on the new UHD discs.

2.35:1 from 1956-1972 for Optical Mixes (though the format survived through Home Video. The Great Escape '63 was intended to be framed at 2.35:1
The 2.39:1 for introduced for "The Molly Maguires" (1970) and because standardized theatrical ratio in 1972.

Yes, I understand that, but they are not straight transfers from the LD. They've been altered. The LD track on Rambo III is 24bit for some reason.

They are also converted to 48 kHz instead of the original captures which are 44.1 kHz. Obviously for compatibility purposes.

Exactly. I would assume the worst case scenario with using a properly done fanjob capture is that we get a smaller file.

I have the original captures attached to the 4kult encodes myself somewhere in my collection but am not an expert on the differences so will leave it to one of the audio experts here to chime in once they have had time to check before I go looking for them to add to the new encodes. I do like the new Lionsgate’s picture quality though, appear to have better grain retention, especially on the first two.

I have the First Blood part 2 Artisan special edition dvd available in dts format. The sound is a 5.1 full coat magnetic print transfer prepared for 70mm screenings.
