"A Charlie Brown Christmas" laserdisc audio, anyone have it?
#1
Hey everyone, just asking if anyone has A Charlie Brown Christmas on LD or has it captured. LDDB seems to have only one version listed, so that must be all there is.

https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/27057/LV83716

I did a little project with this for myself (a hybrid of the BD release and the 16mm copy that went around), and I was thinking about doing an improved version to maybe share online, and I'd like to use LD audio for this rather than downmixing the BD mix to mono.

EDIT: Even if anyone has a decent quality VHS capture, that would be fine (I only have this on DVD and Blu-ray). Analog audio might even match 16mm audio inserts better anyway.

I saw a Youtube video on all the remaster changes the other day, seems like it would be a challenge to sync anything up to it. I'm interested in getting this and How the Grinch Stole Christmas restored though. Unfortunately I have neither disc at the moment Big Grin

Turns out my DVD actually has a mono track and no 5.1 or stereo mix. It's the 2008 "Remastered Deluxe Edition" with a slipcover. I don't know if it's the original mix from the 'revised version' but I don't see what reason they would have for using a mono track on the DVD if it was a remix. Just comparing it to the 16mm version, it sounds similar but the music is a bit louder compared to voices it seems.

For some reason I remembered it having a 5.1 mix like the BD.

IIRC, the first 2009 BD (the one with a VC1 codec) has a DD 2.0 track, despite the case saying Dolby Digital 5.1 (which lead to many complaints from those with mega sound systems, resulting in the later 2 disc BD with 4.3 and 1.78 versions as well as the UHD being "fixed" with a DTS-MA 5.1 track and no 2.0/mono options in sight). As that BD is the same source as the 2008 DVD, the 2.0 is allegedly a dual mono version of the 2008 DVD's 1.0 track.

Thanks for the info. My BD is in a three-pack of "50th Anniversary Deluxe Editions" and has a 5.1 track.

I have the 2008 DVD, that's why I was talking about it.

It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown (1992) was originally mixed in stereo according to IMDB. Has this appeared anywhere on home video?

The old DVDs are dual mono. I believe the UHD/BD are 5.1.

According to Blah-ray, the 2008 DVD is the best sounding audio out of all the releases:

Quote:The only version of this that sounds good is the 192 kbps AC-3 mono track on the remastered DVD (the one using the same restoration as the blu-ray) -- it sounds excellent. All previous editions, however, sound shrill, distorted, and dupey.
