[Help] The Keep (Michael Mann, 1983) – 35mm Scan
#91
Wouldn't the solution to this possibly be to avoid rendering to x254/5 directly from Resolve? Like render to an intermediate then pipe through CLI?

I will probably wait until v2.0 since I have never seen the film and hope to discover it in the best of conditions. Take your time!

I have an idea what wrong, though I'm not quite sure why it's an issue now when it never surfaced in any of renders prior. I'll figure something out.

Didn't do a direct render. I rendered it into a DNxHR 444 MOV file and then ran it through x265.

Ah so did those framed get jumped in the DNxHR? I'm guessing yes because that's a Resolve message which usually happens if you delete / move a file. External hard drive disconnecting or something? Idk.

The hard drive was acting finicky around that time, yes. I wouldn't be surprised if that may have been the cause actually. I did end up fixing it (replaced a connector wire in my PC) but again, will have to try it all again to make sure that the issue doesn't crop up again. I'll probably do a few other things too in hopes that'll also help minimize the problem.

In the meantime though, I will just surf through the movie and keep an eye out for the auto-clean errors to fix in the timeline first when I get the time to do so. Once that's done, then I can try rendering this all again.

It's so good to see all the love for this mostly neglected film. First saw it on TV as a kid in the 80's and instantly fell in love with it. Tracked down a widescreen laserdisc rip on VHS at a dodgy market stall in Glasgow in the mid 90's. Since then I must have about ten other copies of varying quality, one a mock Blu-ray that's pretty good. But seeing this has really made my day. What do I have to do to actually see it?

P.S
Another neglected film close to my heart is Slipstream (1989). Now if only that would get the same loving attention that The Keep is getting.

LucasGodzilla you da Man!  Since Michael Mann has shunned any hope of involvement, no one should expect to see a DC.
ViaVision (Australia) released "the KEEP" on dvd--but seriously?  Has this project advanced any further past the initial scan?

I’m completely new to this platform, but I had to sign up as soon as I saw this project/thread.
I love this film and seeing it getting the restoration it deserves is a dream come true!

So many thanks @LucasGodzilla for making this possible. All your progress I’ve seen here blows my mind!
I know I’m quite late, and that it’s been said or asked often before, but apparently I can’t PM anyone yet and haven’t figured out the reason why just yet, and if I can somehow still donate anything, otherwise contribute, or be able to see this beauty for myself, please let me know.

Trying to get more active here, so happy belated new year everyone, looking forward to seeing you fellow The Keep lovers around!
