Zack Snyder's Justice League
#41
So it's going to be 4 parts each an hour long. And the trailer is 4:3!

What's kinda funny is loads of shots in that trailer show the *very very edges* of the frame because you can see the rounded off corners:

Interesting. What might that be? Matte box? Or some other kind of sun protection?

I just assumed it was the edges of the actual frame on the print but I haven't even watched this film because I kind of stopped caring about DC films somewhere around Man of Steel / BvS. Trailer for The Batman has my interest a bit, and I want to see it regardless because part of it was shot in a place in Scotland that I know well!

Having has a very quick nosey, it does look like some of it was shot on Super 35 (although most probably wasn't) so presumably the bits where you can see the edges is the 35 mm stuff. According to IMDb at least: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0974015/technical

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with all this chat about how great IMAX is, it doesn't look like this was even shot in IMAX (either real or digital). So presumably he's just talking about aspect ratio.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I see. Yeah I guess it might be a film gate type of thing for film shots. But I would expect that to be a little fuzzy or less sharp.

Yeah I thought we had already concluded that, that he's talking about the ratio. Smile Isn't necessarily a bad thing though.

It does look kinda fuzzy though, don't you think?

Nah, I mean I am a crazy person when it comes to fussing over aspect ratios, so I'm all for "I want my film to be framed like IMAX". It just kind of rubs me the wrong way when people equate IMAX with the aspect ratio as if that's all it is. It's so much more than that. Or, rather, it *was* until they started trying to pass off a digital replacement as the real deal when it's clearly not. I only caught a few actual 65 mm IMAX films before they replaced the only reachable IMAX projector with digital and now I'm constantly irritated by being able to see digital aliasing etc. in the image (mostly on things like text). And there's not really a discernible difference any more in the level of detail visible like there so clearly was when it was actual film.

So yeah, tbf, I suppose I can hardly blame consumers for thinking IMAX = different aspect ratio and big screen, when it was originally a legit technical marvel but now it kind of is just a different aspect ratio and big screen... but I can and will still get annoyed at people in the industry talking about it like that, hahah.

I don't know, looks pretty clean to me. Maybe not as clean as a digital mask, but still pretty clean. But who knows, maybe you're right.

Ah. Well I don't think I ever saw true IMAX. Although maybe I did as a kid, one of those museum pieces (those shorts about dinosaurs and such). Too long for me to still remember tho.

Let's not forget YouTube compresses heavily and Snyder loves putting a ton of layers and colour changes. Guess we'll have to wait and see with the final release.

Four one-hour parts, this being HBO MAX, does it mean there will be no commercials? So an actual four-hour film?
