This seems to have hit a wall but I'm determined to push it along. I'd rather not be overly specific about exactly how I'm planning to do that, but basically, here's the deal:
If we can increase the pledged donations by another $450 ASAP, I might be able to get this scanned in the next month or so (I'd be covering a potentially quite significant shortfall just to get it done). Please PM me for details.

I'm still with the original pledge, no problem. A bit tight right now but I'll let you know if I can add more if I make an ebay sale on old items or something.

I've just seen an example of what the scanner is capable of and... well, as I said in the thread, HOLY CRAP. This is what would be used to scan NEAR DARK:
Old scanner: Current scanner: (https://fanrestore.com/thread-3486-post-...l#pid69142) I've got images of a blood-drenched Bill Paxton dancing in my head here but I can't do this without a significant boost to the pot. We're about $450 short here. Feels doable but I get the impression those here who are interested in seeing this film scanned might have already pledged.

Assuming everybody fulfills their pledges when the time comes, this is now 59.5% funded following a €20 pledge from @Johnno. Which means that I can make up the difference if we can raise another $330 in the near future.
Any other takers?

I have another 35 mm scan project on the cards at the moment (which I'd prefer to keep on the down-low, PM me for details) which is moving forward in the very near future, potentially as soon as next week. I'd really love for this one to get done sooner rather than later as well; if we can somehow get a bunch of fresh eyes on this and put some more in the pot, it might even be possible to have it scanned at the same time as the other one.
Another $314.50 and the entirety of NEAR DARK gets scanned, $150 more'n that and you'd be helping me cover the hardware cost rather than me being about $300 in the red for that across two projects (plus whatever shortfall there might be if pledges don't get 100% fulfilled). In an uncharacteristic flash of blind optimism, I've already paid for a hard drive theoretically big enough to store both, but I really don't have that money to spare so I could really use some help with this. So far $500.50 has been pledged, but I don't want to actually start collecting until I'm confident that it'll cross the line. My concern, though, is that too much time passes, such that people who pledged early on either forget or change their minds and don't actually pay up when it comes to it. If that happens, I'm screwed, because I definitely can't afford this on my own. If at all possible, my preference would be to scan both this and the other project (which is also a vampire film!) in one go, which would probably help a bit with the postage costs overall because they might be a little bit cheaper to send together than separately. C'mon, take a bite. You know you want to...

Dream of an idiot, I would have liked to see Sleepy Hollow 1999 with Johnny Depp in 35mm scan for a long time, but many people say that such a film is difficult to find ...

A pledge of £50 (about $69-$70 as of today) brings us meaningfully closer to target!
Current totals: $250 print rental - covered! $470 scanning fee - $320 covered, $150 left to raise $50 shipping back to owner - $50 to raise $40 LTO tapes for backup - $40 to raise $150 HDD for working copy - $150 to raise Another $240 $220 and we can potentially get this scanned at same time as another print I'm getting done this month! Anybody else able to help out here? |
