Thanks! What are we callin' it, €20 or $20? It'll need to get converted to $ USD in the end but €20 is about $24.34 right now so slightly different!

If the end goal is in dollars consider a $20 pledge. I'll see what's the conversion rate at the time and adjust the donation accordingly to make sure that's what you get after fees. If I can afford more I'll add more when the time comes. For the time being I'm a bit strapped for cash but I hope it can help you getting there

I appreciate that, thank you. I'm struggling with cash flow as well just now, I'm earning less and spending more and it ain't a good combo!
Will put you down for $20, I'm hopeful that this might get over the line pretty soon partly due to off-forum pledges but waiting for confirmation... will update ASAP.

I haven't yet updated all the totals in the top post but things are starting to look decent for this thanks to a very generous additional donation from somebody who donated already; I'm just waiting to see how they want to split it (all to $ USD or some USD and some GBP) before I update the totals, but I'm guessing it'll probably be simpler to just do it all as USD. If that's what ends up happening then I believe this is what'll be left to find, in total, for both of the scanning projects I'm doing just now:
$174.50 in USD for the scanning itself
+
£80 in GBP for HDD to store the raw scans (one big drive, slightly better value than 2 smaller ones)
It's so close now! The other one is hopefully being scanned at some point in the next week, but Near Dark was further from target so will probably have to be scanned a little later. If you pledged to either/both, you'll have a recent PM from me with instructions on how and where to send your donation, and if you haven't pledged or donated yet but want to help out, let me know.
Thanks to everybody who has supported these projects, I really appreciate it.

Things are moving to the next stage: the scans are going ahead!
This means that we need one last push to get both of these (NEAR DARK and the other scan, which is a horror classic) to 100% so we can pay the entire scanning fee for both, shipping, and cover the cost of tapes for backup and an external hard drive to store the working copy of the raw scans.
In practice, this means the total remaining for both scans after all pledges have been paid is $179 in USD + £80 in GBP.
If you can help please let me know. Even if it's only a small donation, that makes all the difference as this gets right into the final stretch!
There are also currently $195 in pledges still outstanding (i.e. pledged but not actually paid yet). We'll be paying the scanner imminently, so it is really important that anybody who hasn't yet sent their donation does so as soon as possible to avoid a shortfall. If you can do it within the next 24h that would be amazing, but don't worry if you can't, just obviously the sooner the better. Thank you again for your support!

Looks great! My scan was like that, curved edges on the right and square edges on the left. How are you planning on presenting the final product, as you going to crop it so the right edges are square or leave them rounded?

Well the *final* thing shouldn't show the corners at all because it's obviously not matted (you can see things like microphones dangling from ceilings); the film is to be matted in the projector to 1.85:1 so that's what I'll be matting it to. And evidently that will hide the top and bottom which means hiding the corners of the frame as it appears on the print.
However, it will initially be left fully open matte so you can see the whole thing right to the edges of the print, so in that version you'll be able to see the corners on all four sides.

Hey pipefan413,
I would like to contribute 25€ if it helps. Interesting project.
