Burned-in subtites in the theatrical prints of Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia?

In the theatrical prints only the opening scenes with the daughter and the servant, and then with the daughter and El Jefe, had subtitles. All the rest of the Spanish dialogue in the film had none, and none were really needed. Once the character of Benny is introduced, the film is really from his point of view, and his command of Spanish is very limited.

I'm kind of disappointed that Arrow didn't respect the original choice of the filmmakers.

Does anyone have a laserdisc with burned-in subtitles on those scenes?

One thing I will agree with the user review on is the subtitles though. The Twilight Time has burned-in yellow subtitles in just a few scenes, like the opening ("who is the father?"). Most Spanish conversations are not subtitled. With the Arrow you have two options: either everything off and nothing is translated, even the opening, or a track that subtitles every bit of Spanish in the film using player-generated subs that also translate some Spanish writing and simple stuff like hello into gracias. The Arrow translates too much and is distracting, but turning it off loses some crucial info the Twilight Time does subtitle. So neither is really perfect. The Twilight Time wins here, though I think most will choose the new master and remember the crucial info.

In theory, since apparently Arrow subtitled everything, one could just import the subtitle file for that release and edit the text so that it's only the aforementioned opening scenes where it was originally translated on prints, and then remux that into an MKV—set as the default or forced.

I'd presume it'd be easier than trying to find a laserdisc rip of the movie, though that said, if it shows the subtitles as how they were baked into a theatrical print, you could go one step further with my suggestion and try to emulate the exact look of them if you found the same font (not to mention the exact wording and frame timing).

That's what I wanted to do, emulate the same look with the same font.

For example, Indicator did this with "Missing" but Universal did not.

Apparently all of the "Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia" releases have deleted the original subtitles.

More than likely they scanned the negative which didn’t have the burned in subs. I assume that’s why they are missing.

TT and Kino replacement disc have burned-in subtitles, but I doubt that these replicate the original typesetting.

Someone sent me the NA LD to have its audio ripped a while back and I found it strange that nothing was subtitled in the beginning. Nothing. Not hardcoded, nor via closed captions (of which there are none). Strange choice.

Perhaps this film in its theatrical release never had subtitles or perhaps only a few prints.
