The credits only show Dolby Stereo.

imdb says European prints had Dolby Digital, so it's possible that the 5.1 on the UHD is based of a theatrical Dolby Digital mix.

Cliffhanger was one of a number of titles released between circa 1992-94 to be shown in Dolby Digital (in equipped theatres) but not credited as such on prints or advertising. Stallone's subsequent Demolition Man was another.

I think it wasn't until 1994 that Dolby created the new Dolby Digital Stereo logo that gave an indication of 5.1.

It was mostly in 70mm and Dolby Stereo. If you look at the newsprint you'll notice quite a few of theatres still haven't even upgraded to dolby stereo yet.

EDIT: Turns out I was talking thru my arse.

The DD 5.1 was only used for the 70mm screenings.

The 35mm prints were all Dolby Stereo.

Apologies for the confusion.

So sorry I'm late to this party.  All I can remember from seeing it on 35mm was that the DTS was incredible (as was the SRD).  Being that it was 22 years ago, I don't recall specifics though.

I did watch the film again this past summer on the original BD pressing (MPEG2 video and LPCM 16-bit audio) and it was an absolutely incredible experience. Plenty of deep bass and a very large sound field.  Felt almost better than I remembered it.

Movie: The Fast and the Furious (2001)
Format: R1 DVD
Input: 754 kb/s DTS / 448 kb/s ac3
Output: 754 kb/s DTS / 448 kb/s ac3
Synced To: UHD

I haven't done a full comparison between these 2 tracks and what's on the UHD yet, but at a glance these seem like an improvement.

I just ripped my old DVD to do a sync but you beat me to it!  Would love the compare these.  Currently, I've used the BD audio track with my UHD.  It's pretty ferocious.

I just did the same thing recently! I noticed that the BD audio clips quite a bit, so I went with the DVD DTS for the main track for my remux. Sounds great, but still curious how it compares to the Cinema DTS track.

I ran this on 35mm, primarily in DTS but it’s been so long that I don’t remember the details. It was always quite powerful but good smooth power. I have probably heard the DVD DTS track more than anything and it’s always been great. May give the AC3 a chance though.

Movie: Mulan (1998)
Format: Cinema DTS
Output:FLAC
Synced To: UHD

As far as "atmouse" tracks go, the UHD fares better than most. But I still found it lacking, especially in the avalanche scene. I haven't fired this up in the theater yet, but from what I can tell from a quick listen on my PC speakers and glancing at spectrograms, this is a much needed improvement.

Side note: if anyone has any of the Chinese Cinema DTS discs for this (either Mandarin or Cantonese) please do hit me up. I'd love to check those out.

Movie: Drive (2011)
Source: BBC Radio 1 Re-Score - R2 Special ED BD
Input: DTS-HDMA
Output: FLAC
Synced To: Second Sight UHD

In 2014, BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe took the iconic soundtrack to Drive and replaced it with a different soundtrack. And for some reason Nicolas Refn signed off on this. It aired once, and is available on the R2 Special Edition blu-ray, but otherwise isn't on any other edition or easily available online. I grabbed the lossless version from the disc and synced it to the UHD. The opening logos are different so I replaced it with the UHD audio. The credits on the re-score BD are also a bit longer, so I had to cut off about a minute of music from the end. I added a fade so it doesn't just stop abruptly.

If you've never seen the film, do yourself a huge favor and don't use this. The original score fits the film perfectly, this is more of a novelty if anything.
