Sadly it's just that, the old D-VHS in open matte and progressive.
It's sad to say, there's still not a decent version of this available anywhere.

I was taking a look at some hybrid builds of the Abyss and saw that there is a Chinese DVD DTS track that is frequently used. I don't know much about it though except it's 1509 kbps and available in theatrical and special edition edits.
