Grease LD PCM preservation
#91
To make matters worse, Paramount seldom if ever updated their jacket artwork to reflect audio remasters. It's almost impossible to tell editions apart, widescreen remasters notwithstanding. And I owned at least one mid 80's Paramount LD with digital sound markings that had no digital sound at all.

Disappointing the Japanese digital LD has the same weak audio. Sad

It's also sad that many were under the impression the 2.0 track of the original DVD release was the original. About two years someone on originaltrilogy.com messaged me asking if I was sure the 2002 DVD I had was not the Rockin' Rydell Edition (its not) and if I was sure the 2.0 track wasn't the original. I kept insisting it wasn't despite his doubts. Hopefully next year we'll get a 40th anniversary release that will finally restore the mix, at least as option!

Paramount has been farming out their library to other labels as of late, but Grease is too much of a cash cow to let the 40th pass by.

Too bad Randal Kleiser hasn't updated his twitter since 2015. We could ask him about it.

Hi, has [LV 1108] been captured?

Does [LV011081-WS] have the audio mix soundtrack? Thanks.

Someone at OT confirmed a few years back that LV011081-WS has a fold down of the 5.1 1998 remix. I bought a copy of LV 1108 back in 2012, and it didn't have a digital track. An Ebay seller at the time was kind enough to check a similar copy they had, and also no digital. After buying three copies of Grease, it was turning into a money pit, and I concentrated on the VHS capture.
It was speculated there may have been an inventory of older Grease discs they simply slapped new labels on and shipped out in the new sleeve.

Cool, LV 1108 is the LD that may actually have a digital track?

If you have the time and money to blind buy a bunch of copies, maybe. The only cosmetic difference from the old LD jacket is a barcode on the back.

LV 1108 with the barcode may have digital audio Or without the barcode?

With barcode, but it's a crapshoot as to what you actually get.

How does the analog track of LV 1108 compare to 21.04.002?
