[Help] Replicating Dolby A and/or SR noise reduction for audio
#1
Music
Hey, is there a way one can replicate Dolby A and/or Dolby SR noise reduction on optical audio from 35mm scans via software? Many of them are left as-is on fanmade film transfers (which I'm fine with that) since I don't think the vast majority of the scanners can do noise reduction on the said audio tracks. Besides, I REALLY don't have the funds to get a projector and a Dolby audio track reader just to rip audio.

I don't know if there is a preset for this, but you'll have to deactivate the tape emulation, then in Compander section you set Encoder to None and Decoder to A-Type. You can save that plugin configuration to a preset then...

UAD A-Type Multiband Dynamic Enhancer works as a fully functional Dolby A software emulation plugin, here's a quote from hairy_hen from OT about it:

"At any rate, when it comes to replicating the sound of classic analog gear, Universal Audio is very tough to beat. They go all out in replicating the little quirks and nuances of how a given circuit will behave, to a level of detail and accuracy which could easily be called obsessive, and every comparison I've heard or personally done of their plugins against the emulated hardware has found them to be, for all practical purposes, indistinguishable. I also know that the engineers at Capitol Studios have been using this plugin to digitally archive their extensive library of Dolby-encoded master tapes, even before the final version was released to the public — this preservation of music history was one of the design goals that led the folks at UA to make the thing in the first place. So its results can certainly be regarded as trustworthy, in case anyone was worried about that. Wink"
