We Are The Walking Dead (Mini-Series) FANedit
First of all, I'm horrified about what happened to your uncle!

Jerryshadoe Wrote:I apologize to jedeitor and Andrea for, basically, wasting their time verifying audio that I can't use and hope this doesn't discourage them from still helping me with the subtitles and this project.

What the-- WHAT? I had to go through that horrible spanish dub for nothing? I'm not helping with this anymore.

I was joking. LOL

If the result is going to sound amateur there's no point on releasing it. Don't worry. On the bright side, leaving the dubs outside will make the work in the next movies flow much much faster, and it will also be less work for us little helpers. Wink

I am curious to watch that vintage version. I can't right now since this computer I'm at just can't play 1080p.

You forgot to re-send me the english subs!

Oh sh*t!!! I completely forgot. Sorry, like I said - it's been a busy, hectic few days. As far as my uncle is concerned, indeed - it's horrifying and I'm just glad that he will survive. Fortunately, he's a tough son-of-a-b*tch, a Vietnam-war veteran and this isn't the first bullet his body has seen. I just hope that they find the punk that did this to him. Cops are always there when they want to harass you but never there when you need them (at least here in the US)

Here's the link to the subtitles: https://mega.co.nz/#!gEgBQAwR!B4COs2Tajf...tpUfnX3RvQ

Again, sorry for making you listen to the horrible dub. At least you will never have to do that againWink

You're right that this will make the process of the putting together the next films much, much, much fasterBig Grin

How will you be able to play the "released BD" once I actually release it. Will you just burn it and then play on a blu-ray player? Would you like me to make a 720p downscaled encode of the sample file so that you can see it? (of course, once I wake up as now... you know what time it is for me, LOL)

I think that's everywhere. Sad

Oh, no, it's just that I'm at work and I can't play 1080p with THIS computer. The one at home can play it smoothly. Wink

No worries, I'm headed off for some z's so no hurry and when you get a chance to take a look at the sample feel free to comment on what you think.

Really sad to know the Italian track will be not included... Sad to me, a "simple" 2.0 will be more than sufficient, but hey, at the end it is your project, I can't force you to add this (and other languages) just because I'm doing the same with all my project... at this point, you should feel guilty enough to change your mind, and work onto all foreign tracks, and... ooops, did I write this too? Wink

Hope your uncle will feel good ASAP!!!

On my other projects I do everything I can to include foreign audio tracks but it is pretty easy (usually) because you are syncing an entire movie to an entire movie. This is VERY different because I am creating a "new" movie where it's not an entire track being synced from one to the other but, instead, it's clips (custom crossfaded) of audio. There are over 200 audio clips altogether in this first film taken from the first 6 episodes (will be even more with the next film since there are more episodes in each of the next seasons) That is a LOT of work to re-edit individually for each language whereas with your projects it's ONE "clip" being synced to the otherWink

Looking forward to any opinions about the "Vintage Edition."

Watched the Vintage Edition sample, pretty cool, different for sure. I like the added grain and dirt/damage. What would it be like in color instead of sepia, or a different shade of sepia? [Image: dmax_5386sepia3.jpg]

IMHO, in color that effect just didn't work. It looked way too grainy, dirty and artificial. Just didn't have that "film" effect to it. I tried various different types of sepia tones and selected the one in the sample for the "look" I was going for. I could try to change the plugin settings and show different effects if you are interested, but I'm not so sure I want to re-encode the entire film again because it took around 68(!) hours. But if you're curious for example's sake, I can encode a short sample clipWink Let me know as this has been fun to tinker with and see how changing the settings gives different results...

Whoops i must have missed that about already encoded and done part of the vintage version, D'oh! Yeah even a sample would be interesting to see though.

Yeah, the reason I tested the settings extensively is because I knew it would be a bloody-long encoding time due to the amount of filters used and added grain layers to achieve the effect I was aiming for. The actual "normal" version only took about 28 hours to encode (and that's with a real 35mm grain plate added) so the difference is HUGE. But I can tinker with it and show some different results when I get a chance. Right now I'm focusing on re-doing the audio a little bit for that vintage version. I thought I had it right, but I realized that there are moments in the film (enough to justify re-editing it a little) where the music level is way too low, so I'm having to custom adjust the levels again for a few parts. No big deal, just needs to be done.

Once that's done and I receive the rest of the translations, all I really have to do is author the BD. Still learning the authoring program I want to use (but it has a VERY steep learning curve) and if that gets too frustrating, I can always use multiAVCHD but the menu's won't look as nice.

On side note: As I'm waiting on the last couple of things before the "official" release on the first film, I can now announce that: YES, I have started working on the second film. I see that there is some interest in this project (there have been over 5000 views now, thanx to all that have been patiently following the process) and feel a lot more comfortable with what I'm trying to do here. As the seasons progress, expand in size of source footage, and as the stories evolve; there is a lot more room for creativity. Granted, there was some cool things I was able to do with season one and give it a more "serious" presentation, but as the amount of side-stories expands this gives me a chance to select "good" ones and focus more on the "main" story-line. Trimming down and re-cutting season 2 is probably going to be the hardest as there is so much "filler" footage that is not relevant to the "main" story-line but there is also a LOT of really awesome footage there (i.e: the walker herds [highway and farm], the killing of barn walkers/discovery of sophia walker, the bloater walker in the water well) that putting this together should be fun.

I will be posting a "workprint" for it as soon as I have something coherent put together. Might be a few weeks or so before I have that put together and it definitely won't be before the "official" release of first filmWink
