We Are The Walking Dead (Mini-Series) FANedit
SD encode for publics is good enough. We're probably not going to watch it anyway. Smile

Which private trackers do you have in mind? Like I said, myspleen isn't likely to allow it, but who knows.

ok, I see a LOT more views for this thread since I posted here and I feel obligated to post a status updateWink

@ Feallan - Now that we have a home for our HD releases, that's where it will be released.

@ ALL - Two reasons I didn't release "Part I" yet... first, I didn't have the HDD space to author the BD (even though everything is already assembled) Second, until recently we didn't have a "home" for these projects, which thanx to Vinnie is not a problem anymore and it will be released on BT. As soon as I finish my "something evil" project (within the next few days) I will author the BD and release it. Also, I have Part IIa 95% complete now (just needs minor audio tweaks at transitions) and Part IIb is about 90% assembled as well.

Not sure whether I will be posting "workprint" copies for Part II like I did for Part I... Reason being not that I don't want to but I don't think it will help much... I have already cut out so much that if any suggestions are made to cut more, the story (or continuity) will start to fall apart... However, as always, I'm open to suggestions and if the community wants to help with feedback I am happy to obligeBig Grin

Ok, so since my "Something Evil" project is being placed on hold, (for those interested, read here) I am resuming my work on this project.

Actually, I already started. It's a good thing that I took some time off from working on this, as I was able to spot a few minor problems right away that I missed before. Amongst those were some timing cue for music issues, incorrect frames start/stop points for transitions, two continuity problems, and minor rendering problems (these caused by Vegas, where the only way to get around it is to render the frames that I need from an "uncut" source losslessly,[using a "loop region" setting] before I "insert" them into my cut on my project timeline)

But, while I work on Part IIa and IIb, I should "probably," finally, release part I. As far as this is concerned, I still need to author the disc. I know, I know... I said I would do that a while back, but I have been so crazy busy with my personal life that I didn't have the time to come around to do it. I don't want to spend a lot of time on making a "fancy" looking menu and stuff... It's my project, but I am interested in people's opinion here: does it matter if the menus are "fancy" or can they just be "simple," as it's the content that matters and not the packaging? This would save me a ton of time and I could have this released on BT within the next couple of daysWink

@ Andrea - As I told you before, including other languages, would involve me re-editing ALL of footage (and coinciding audio tracks) again and again for each language. This would be a HUGE pain, with the amount of cuts made, to assemble the entire film "from scratch" each time and the fact that these are not always in order seen in the original.

I am happy to include subtitles for any languages. If there are those that would like to have something other then English, Italian, and Spanish included, speak upWink

I'll go with a rather simple, but nice, animated menu... Smile

Hmmm... Animated menu, you say... ok, I'll see what I can doWink

For those interested, I have a little 9 minutes sample from Part IIa... I'm not sure if this is the way the "final" cut will be and the audio is dual mono for the sample, but this is the entire "Shane & Otis at the High School" sequence... in the original, we only see the ending of this sequence in the crappy flashbacks that Shane has while he's shaving at the end of episode 3. I also had to figure out a way to continue the scene from the end of episode 2 (where they get caught behind that fence) and the beginning of episode 3 (after the credits) where they are running down the hall-ways of the school. In that part, originally we hear a voice-over by Rick telling a story about Shane. This didn't work for continuity of the sequence, so I stripped Rick's voice from the center channel and replaced it with a "custom built" track made from the other channels. There is a little part of a scene missing (those that know the storyline will notice it right away) but I felt that it slowed down the entire sequence too much... anyway, here's the timecoded SD sample

Looking forward to ANY feedbackWink

Simple animated menu - like a shot from the movie itself, the animated title, that's it, nothing complicated... but I'd avoid a simple static image as background.

Ok, I've seen the scene.

It works great, except for your damn crossfades! LOL

Well, just one crossfade this time.

The scene where they split is missing (I guess you meant that one) but your cut flows quite right even without that. It's quite amazing what you have done here, since the "inside the building" scene was so chopped up in the original.

So, to avoid the crossfade I would make an direct cut from around 00:38:55.12 to around 00:39:14.20. We see them walking away from a zombie filled fence and we cut to the other zombie filled fence. You can left it just like that, or you could even flip horizontally the second zombie fence shot, so it would look like it is the fence they have just left behind. I think that can work very well.

Hey, hey, you leave my crossfades alone... LOL Tongue

Welcome back to the thread, it's nice to see a familiar "face."

On topic of crossfades, don't forget that some are unavoidable and some are present in the original footage.

Thanx for the kudos on how I cut the scene together. The most chopped up part of the sequence is the very end of it, when we see Shane & Otis running away and then Shane shooting Otis. This was in short, little snippets at the end of episode 3 where we see Shane shaving his head and having those "flashbacks."

Personally, I HATED this particular crossfade and only used it because of the scene change that occurs there, where the audio transition was a HUGE issue. I did try to exclude the part you are talking about, but there was a continuity issue with Shane going from being on the right to being on the left in the next shot. I wanted to avoid using a mirrored sequence there, but this might be a good option. I am going to mess with it a little more right now and see what I can do.

I just looked at the timecode and I tried to cut the entire scene from 38:55.12 to 39:19.04, where it went directly from Shane and Otis to them again... So, disregard part of my last statement above... because... what you suggest in cutting it only to 39:14.20, where we see the walkers behind the fence (although probably mirrored, like you suggested) gives some time (even in the "real" world) for Shane to switch sides AND it helps me solve the audio issue there. I hated the audio transition, where here, with the loud walkers it helps it become more smooth. Again, you come to my rescue with a good observation. Thank youWink

I have to pre-render a LOT of sequences into a lossless format (damn vegas is not liking the cuts I'm making on the original AVC video demuxed from the BD) so this is taking a little longer to put together. I essentially have most of Part IIa and IIb cut together, but now have to waste extra time before I can actually render a "workprint" or the "final" encode. Since this is the case, I hope that you don't tell me to re-insert extra footage back into the edits. Getting rid of stuff is fine. Honestly, I don't think anything will need to be re-insertedBig Grin

Ok, so I'm having problems authoring the BD for Part I. I have wasted three discs now, where MultiAVCHD tells me everything went fine, I burn the iso using ImgBurn and then when I load the disc, the movie plays automatically (even though I selected to display menu first), then it plays the "Vintage Edition" and that's it... no menus at all... Maybe it's my error, but I'm doing the same thing I have done for other discs I have authored successfully... Hmmm...

On separate note: I have finally encoded the first workprint of Part II-a Big Grin

It's still a pretty rough cut... There are parts that are pretty much already finished and look/sound proper and then there is stuff that still needs to be fixed... such as: missing/blank frames (needs to be replaced, counted 4 instances throughout film) there are certain transitions/crossfades that I don't like or don't work, there are still a couple of audio errors, where sound from next scene (or part that was cut) is still present (most notably during the Daryl looking for Sophia on horse sequence) The workprint is watermarked "for previewing only" and is timecoded to make identifying "trouble" spots easy. It's a 640x360@23.976fps@~1800kbps VxiD with 5.1 AC3@384kbps. Total size (with a runtime of ~94minutes) is 1.43GB and can be found here
