We Are The Walking Dead (Mini-Series) FANedit
Ok, so the last four hours were basically wastedSad

First, the "car crash" scene shots before the music starts do NOT work at all. The intro of the music gets really muffled and ruins the beginning. It also seems "out-of-place" so I will have to re-work it back to the "original" that I had since it aligned with the music properly. This doesn't mean that I will re-insert the "...present" title screen, but instead just extend the shot of the bad guy shooting at rick (there is plenty of footage there for me to be able to do this) and have to figure out where I will put that "title card."

Next, no way how I tried it (and I tried so many different ways I actually lost count) the audio just doesn't sound right during the shot where Rick is pointing the gun at Daryl & the one where Rick is pointing a gun at Merle, so these two shots will HAVE to be replaced with something else. Not sure what yet, the shot with Rick & Merle might be replaced with a shot from the "car crash" scene, but I'm not sure whether it will match the lyrics or be timed right. For the first shot, with Rick & Daryl, I have no idea what I will insert there. I'm mad that I have to drop that scene, but now that I think about it, it doesn't match the theme of the song.

On a happy note, I was able to make the shot where Andrea points a gun at Rick sound perfect, as well as the awesome scene where Rick points his shotgun at Guillermo. These were actually very easy to fix (took me about 15 minutes total) and I'm glad that I can leave them in the trailer.

Today I will be busy with family, but once my kids go to sleep at the end of the night, I will resume the work on this and re-insert the gunshot sfx during the "Rick under tank" scene which I saw no point in working on until I finish the other audio problems.

OK, now that my kids are asleep, I can resume work on this project...

Status update:

Andrea has verified the Italian dub and the subtitles are in the process of being translated to Italian.
Jedeitor has verified the Spanish dub and I'm hoping the subtitles are being translated to Spanish too.
I have verified the Polish voice-over and have started the translation of the subtitles to Polish.
The Russian voice-over and French dub have NOT been verified yet and it looks like they won't be which also means that those languages will NOT have subtitles because (like I mentioned in an earlier post) I don't want to use "google translator" Sad

I am about to resume work on the trailer. Hopefully, I will be able to find replacement footage that matches the "theme" of the music relatively quickly. Jedeitor has given me a suggestion as to where I should place the "Jerry Shadoe and AMC present" text onscreen and I will be testing that here in a moment. I really want to finish the trailer tonight and post it on youtube. Then I can start posting a link to it in many different places, including kickasstorrents where I have been active for the last few years and have a relatively high reputation (I'm one of about 900 people that have a 10000+ reputation on the site, out of millions of registered users)

Now, a few questions:

a) should I even bother making a "commentary track?" (I really would like to, but is there any point of doing it?)

b) if I do make that track, should it have English subtitles?

c) if it does have English subtitles, should they be translated into the foreign languages?

d) When releasing stuff like this on public trackers, the torrents usually die quickly. Would anyone have a problem with it being released on rutracker?? (NOT only, but mainly) The whole reason I decided to include Russian as a language option is because they always keep stuff SEEDED and usually at VERY HIGH speeds as long as there is a Russian audio option.

e) considering the fact that there will be 6 language options (excluding the possible "commentary track" and the "sfx/music only" track which I would only include on the BD release) which will take up a lot of space (making the file size substantially bigger) should I release the SD/720p copies in two formats: an English only version and a "all audio options" version?

f) if I do release it with all language tracks on the SD/720p copies, what should their size be? I'm not only talking about video bitrate, but audio bitrate as well.

g) should the SD copy, only have a downmixed 2.0 track to help make the filesize smaller?

Thoughts? Wink

Wow, this looks like a test!

a) If you like the idea, do it! I did a commentary once for an old set of home videos I recorded with my friends back around my 15s or so. When I tried to watch it to see if it fitted the video, I felt asleep. XD But it can be interesting if you explain all the process of the fanedit.

b) NO! Recording the commentary is easy, but having to transcript and time everything would be too much extra work.

c) NO! You will never release this if you keep adding stuff. Wink

d) NO! No problem I mean. LOL. Why should anybody have a problem with the places where this is released?

e) Yes, the "all audio" would be very well seeded at rutracker and the english only can be even uploaded to Mega.

f) I don't know a thing about bitrates.

g) Yes, if somebody wants quality, he can download the BD.

I forgot to comment an interesting (or not) fact. In spanish (and italian, I guess), "ki" is already pronounced as "key". Wink

That's funny, because I realized it looks like a test after I saw the post, LOL

a) Ok! I do like the idea and was planning on explaining some of the process

b) that's what I thought tooSmile

c) I PROMISE THAT THIS WILL BE RELEASED SOON!

d) maybe I phrased the question wrong... the only reason I mentioned it is because I know that navigating the site can be problematic for those that are not familiar with Russian

e) I never even thought of MEGA as a "release place." That might be a good option for the English-only version

f) no worries, I'm sure someone can make suggestions (Andrea, I'm thinking of you, LOL)

g) I was thinking the same thing.

I had to search for that song in youtube because I can't wait for your trailer to hear it again. What have you done to me?!

In Polish "ki" is also pronounced "key," LOL
I think this is because the languages are phonetic, unlike English which make no sense when it comes to pronunciation.

What have I done to you? LOL
I "infected" you with a song Big Grin

for those that are interested in the song I'm using, here's the youtube link to official music video for it:

I don't have a hurry for you to release the BD, it's just that you are making this so huge I'm afraid at some point you might feel that doing it all again for at least 4 more seasons it's a too gigantic work and kind of leave the project for a better time that maybe will never come. :_(

Oh, I didn't see it that way. Well, the automatic translation in google chrome is more than enough to use the site. and you can upload the same torrent file to kickass so it would be seeded by visitors of both places.

I knew this would be a HUGE project before I started it and I am ok with that. I plan on doing a film (a part of this mini-series) for EVERY season that will be released of the tv-series. I already have all of the video for the first four season demuxed and ready to be used in Sony Vegas for editing, as well as ALL of the audio (including ALL foreign language tracks) ready to be used for this project. (It's taking up nearly 2TB of space, LOL)

That's what I planning for the torrent file - using the same one in numerous different places. I totally forgot about the automatic translation in google chrome because I still use firefox (been using it for many years, ever since Netscape [I know that was a long time ago, LOL] went under and stopped being a usable browser)

Yes, I will always say that about English - it makes no sense at all. Nearly all languages in the world have some kind of phonetic pronunciation (with certain exceptions for some letters/combinations of letters/etc) except for English. I was raised in the United States, but Polish was my "at home" language and, at first, I had some trouble figuring out English when I went to school...

I'd like to have it, but it's not so fundamental...

It will be good, but again, can live without it

Of course... Wink

Go for it! Think also to other private trackers, though...

If you would like to do it/them, I'll go for simple 384kbps 5.1 tracks for all main languages, and use the needed bitrate to fill up a DVD-9 - that would be also useful for an AVCHD or BD-9 for the 720p

Nope!

for all questions: do not waste your time for these things, while you could work on something more important! IMHO! ...like season 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. Big Grin
