Hi everyone. I'm a lifelong movie fan and home video enthusiast, going all the way back to VHS and up through 4K UHD. I've never really explored fan restorations that much before, but for the past couple of months I've started to get into it more.
I'm looking forward to enjoying all the great work here. I'm excited to start with the audio projects, getting original mixes to replace the revisionist ones found on newer releases. It's great to find people who care about these things when the studios don't.
Thanks and see you all around!

Hi,
after the Shoutbox shoutouting, regarding country specific marketplaces for used stuff, like DVDs. I want to collect such marketplaces from around the globe, so if someone searches for a specific release form a specific country, that someone might also check out local used stuff marketplace sites, if he can spot his object of desire.
Ill think we shoudl also, next to the link of course, note down some specific information, like if it is english friendly / homep age language options(*), possible to register from other countries than the marketplace country, and such.
(*) some sellers on such places might have different personal options...
So I start
Germany:
Rote Erdbeere
https://www.roteerdbeere.com/
Description: Small German akternative to ebay, also with "adult only" stuff (that needs log in and age validation).
Type: Auction platform
Site-Languages: German
International friendly: NOT TESTET
Filmundo
https://www.filmundo.de/
Description: Small German Auction Platform for Movies and PC GAmes, and Movie/Game related stuff, "adult only" stuff shown after log in with age verification.
Type: Auction plattform
Site-Languages: German
International friendly: NOT TESTET
eBay Kleinanzeigen
https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/
Description: Germal lokalizes branch from eBay, thats not per auction, but like small ads, someone could post something he offers or searches, and interested people contact the seller for further arrangements.
Type: small ads used stuff Marketplace
Site-Languages: German
International friendly: NOT TESTET
Netherlands:
Marktplaats
https://www.marktplaats.nl/
Description: used item Tradeplace combination of small ads and auction plattform, with a bit more direct contact to the seller
Type: Auction plattform
Site-Languages: Dutch
International friendly:
YES:
Germany (in test)
NO:
United Kingdom
Finland:
Huuto
https://www.huuto.net/
Description: Auction plattform not exclusive to movies, but about everything thats legal (in finland) (Serious guys/gals: I've even saw a de-weaponized anti-tank canon from WW2 there!!!)
Site-Language: Finnish
International friendly:
YES:
Germany (but with issues when registering, I had problems with my mobile phone and adress setup, needed customer service from that page)
Reported by spoRv ( https://fanrestore.com/thread-3819-post-...l#pid70061 )
Italy:
Subito
https://www.subito.it/
Description: Biggest Italian non-auction marketplace for used and new stuff; localized
Type: Small ads
Site-Languages: Italian
International friendly: NOT TESTED
Lithuania:
Skelbiu
https://www.skelbiu.lt/
Description: Biggest Lithuanian non-auction marketplace for used and new stuff; localized
Type: Small ads
Site-Languages: Lithuanian
International friendly: NOT TESTED
Poland:
Allegro
https://allegro.pl/
Description: Famous marketplace for used and new stuff; localized
Type: Small ads and auction
Site-Languages: Polish
International friendly: NOT TESTED
Registration is internationally possible (registered from Germany), but there is no Language option to see the page in other than polish.
Personal (from Germany) experience (I just might have been unlucky): So far most of the sellers I asked answered, that they do not ship internationally, if they answered at all.
Sweden:
Finn
https://www.finn.no/
Description: Big non-auction marketplace for used and new stuff; localized
Type: Small ads
Site-Languages: Swedish
International friendly: NOT TESTED
(Reportet by IcePrick / https://fanrestore.com/thread-3819-post-...l#pid71234 )
Tradera
https://www.tradera.com/
Description: Swedisch local auction plattform, similar to eBay.
Type: Like ebay. Auctions. But possibly also has fixed price offers.
Site-Lanbnguages: Swedisch, English, German
International friendly: Depending on individual Seller
Reported by deleted ( https://fanrestore.com/thread-3819-post-...l#pid70066 )
Spain:
todocoleccion
https://todocoleccion.net
Description: Marketplace with slight focus on collector's items. Has Super8, old books, adult stuff. I don't know if the collector's aspect of it is even very relevant. Maybe the key is that the stuff there is a bit older? Not sure. But has a lot of stuff.
Type: Like ebay. Auctions or fixed prices.
Site Languages: Various to choose from iirc.
International friendly: Ability to order from Germany without big issues. If you can't find your country name in the list, consider that it might be called something completely different in Spanish. The country list does not get translated.
Czech:
Aukro
https://aukro.cz
Description: Like ebay, but in Czech. Have found some 16mm stuff there, for example, but it has all kinds of stuff.
Type: Like ebay. Auctions. But possibly also has fixed price offers.
Site languages: Not tested
International friendly: Was able to order from Germany but I do speak Czech so I'm not sure how well it would work otherwise.
Questions in Regard to usability to the reporting users, I just collect all on top for viewability.

| AVR Settings |

Hi All,
So my Denon AVR has three audio settings from what I can work out:
Pure - plays the file as is with no adjustments
Pure Direct - same but the most of the machine shuts down so there is no mechanical noise/interference - also turns off the AVR OSD
Movie - select the playback type i.e. DTS-HD, stereo, mono, multi mono etc
I imagine most people on fanres will opt for pure or pure direct. However the AVR also has this Audyssey feature where you place a microphone in different parts of the room and it calibrates itself based on your actual room. When playing the AVR in pure or pure direct mode, the calibration from that feature is turned off. There are some that say room calibration is one of the biggest advances in home theater.
To be honest with my hearing I doubt I'd hear any difference between the settings, but what do others do?
Thanks

Long time lurker of this forum. Long time member of originaltrilogy.com. The TR47 laserdisc captures of pre-SE Star Wars movies over 15(20?!)
years ago is what introduced me to fan-restorations and such. The art of recreating and/or preserving a piece of movie history that is not commercially
available on currect formats, that is movie magic to me!
Have started a few projects of my own over the years, while having finished even fewer..
*Dragon Fist, synced uncut english mono track to the HKL dvd (Obsolete since 88 released their BD)
*Operation Condor, recreation of the HK-cut in HD with english dub based on the japanese print (rendered obsolete by 88 films release)
*Armour of God, uncut with english dub based on Miramax BD paired with Mediumrare BD (paused due to HKR releasing their version before I finished mine)
*Wheels on Meals, synced the old english dub to the old HKL dvd (obsolete since Eureka released their bluray. Starting to see a pattern..? )
*Police Story 2, recreation of the shorter HK-cut with english hybrid dub track and color corrected to match theatrical print (harddrive failed, starting over from scratch... )
*Drunken Master, color correction to remove green tint (slowly getting there..)
*Snake in eagles shadow, synced the english dub with alt. music to japan HD print (I believe the german BD has it, and 88s' release is coming, so obsolete again. But it's a good thing! )
Also donated a few bucks to the 35mm TGTBTU project a couple of years ago.
Among my favourite fan-res projects are the color-corrected Fellowship of the Ring - Extended, Terminator 1 with mono audio, various Star Wars projects and most things related to Hongkong-cinema.
Cheers!
