Music Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) Audio Commentaries
Posted by: jolennon - 2020-04-29, 09:10 AM - Forum: Released - No Replies

I spent the last weeks putting together the most Disney commentaries I could find. They're all .ac3 and seem to be untouched. You can download them to use in projects or just for completeness sake. In some cases (The Little Mermaid and Aladdin) I had to use DVD sources from previous editions because Disney changed the original logo in the BD.

Here's the list of each audio commentary uploaded (the source is in the file name):

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - animation historian John Canemaker, with archival audio excerpts by Walt Disney

Pinocchio - film critic Leonard Maltin, Disney animator Eric Goldberg, and Disney historian J.B. Kaufman, with archival audio excerpts by animators Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, and Eric Larson

Fantasia - animation historian John Canemaker, with archival audio excerpts by Walt Disney
Fantasia - Roy E. Disney, conductor James Levine, and restoration supervisor Scott MacQueen
Fantasia - Disney historian Brian Sibley

Dumbo - animation historian John Canemaker
Dumbo - Pixar director Pete Docter, Disney historian Paula Sigman, and Disney animator Andreas Deja, with archival audio excerpts by writers Dick Huemer and Joe Grant, animators Ward Kimball, and Wolfgang Reitherman, sound designer Jim MacDonald, and layout artist Ken O’Conner

Peter Pan - Roy E. Disney, animation historian Jeff Kurtti, with archival audio excerpts by Walt Disney, animators Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Marc Davis, and Ward Kimball, live-action reference model Margaret Kerry, voice actor/live-action reference model Kathryn Beaumont, film historian Leonard Maltin, and animation historian John Canemaker

Sleeping Beauty - Disney historian Leonard Maltin, Pixar director John Lasseter, Disney animator Andreas Deja, with archival audio excerpts by Walt Disney, production designer Eyvind Earle, and supervising animators Marc Davis, Ollie Johnston, and Frank Thomas

The Jungle Book - composer/song-writer Richard M. Sherman, supervising pencil animator Andreas Deja and voice actor Bruce Reitherman, with archival audio excerpts by director Wolfgang Reitherman, directing animators Ollie Johnson and Frank Thomas, and co-screenwriter Larry Clemmons

The Little Mermaid - writers/directors Ron Clements and John Musker, and composer Alan Menken

Beauty and the Beast - producer Hahn, directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, with archival audio excerpts by composer Alan Menken

Aladdin - producer Amy Pell, directors Ron Clements and John Musker
Aladdin - supervising animators Andreas Deja, Will Finn, Eric Goldberg, and Glen Keane

The Lion King - producer Don Hahn and directors Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff

Pocahontas - producer James Pentacost and directors Mike Gabriel & Eric Goldberg

The Hunchback of Notre Dame - producer Don Hahn and directors Kirk Wise & Gary Trousdale

Mulan - producer Pam Coats and directors Tony Bancroft & Barry Cook

Tarzan - producer Bonnie Arnold and directors Kevin Lima & Chris Buck

Fantasia 2000 - executive producer Roy E. Disney, conductor James Levine, and producer Don Ernst
Fantasia 2000 - directors and artists Don Hahn, Pixote Hunt, Hendel Butoy, Dean Gordon, Bill Perkins, Eric Goldberg, Susan Goldberg, Michael Humphries, Roy Disney, Gaëtan Brizzi, Paul Brizzi, and Carl Jones

The Emperor's New Groove - producer Randy Fullmer, director Mark Dindal, art director Colin Stimpson, character designer Joseph C. Moshier, story supervisor Stephen Anderson, and supervising animators Nik Ranieri and Bruce W. Smith

Atlantis: The Lost Empire - producer Don Hahn and directors Kirk Wise & Gary Trousdale

Treasure Planet - directors Ron Clements and John Musker, producer Roy Conli, supervising animators Glen Keane and John Ripa, associate art director Ian Gooding

Brother Bear - characters Rutt (Rick Moranis) and Tuke (Dave Thomas)

Home on the Range - producer Alice Dewey, director Will Finn and director John Sanford

Chicken Little - director Mark Dindal, producer Randy Fullmer and visual effects supervisor Steve Goldberg

Meet the Robinsons - director Stephen J. Anderson

The Princess and the Frog - co-writers/directors Ron Clements and John Musker, producer Peter Del Vecho

Moana - directors Ron Clements and John Musker (2017 Blu-Ray)

Bonus: Tangled (from The Animation Podcast) - Amy Smeed, Adam Dykstra, Jennifer Hager, Miyuki Kanno-Long, Adam Green, Daniel Peixe, John Wong, Zach Parrish, Marlon Nowe, Doug Bennett, Joel Reid, Mark Mitchell, Kira Lehtomaki, Patrick Osborne, Darrin Butters, Becky Bresee, Chris Cordingly, Chadd Ferron, Clay Kaytis, John Kahrs, Chad Sellers, Jason Figliozi, and Malcon Pierce

In case you didn't noticed I also uploaded an unofficial commentary (in mp3) for Tangled made in 2012 by some animators who worked on it for a podcast.

Unfortunally I couldn't find every one of them, so if anyone here have it or could capture it, here's the list of missing commentaries and where to find them:

Sleeping Beauty - Disney historian Jeff Kurtti, with archival audio excerpts by production designer/background artist Eyvind Earle, voice actor Mary Costa, supervising animators Ollie Johnston and Marc Davis, background artist Frank Armitage, Pocahontas director Mike Gabriel, and Pocahontas art designer Michael Giaimo (2003 DVD)

Pocahontas - producer James Pentecost, co-directors Mike Gabriel & Eric Goldberg, composer Alan Menken, lyricist Stephen Schwartz, art director Michael Giaimo, and co-writer Carl Binder (1996 Laserdisc)

Lilo & Stitch - writers/directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois and producer Clarke Spencer (2009 "Big Top Edition" DVD or 2013 "Two Movie Collection" BD)

Also, Tarzan, The Emperors New Groove and Meet The Robinsons are sourced from PAL DVDs, so a little tweak in the audio will be necessary unless someone find their NTSC DVD counterparts (or BD, on "Robinsons"' case)

List of 35mm print reels for sale
Posted by: sebkarlbjork - 2020-04-28, 08:12 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - No Replies

I intend to collect all 35mm prints that I can find and are sold now and in the future.
Most of them come from different sellers and I will note which ones have been used alot and those that have been used better, if possible.

Everyone will probably not think that a specific movie is worth preserving, but it can be fun to see what title can get all our attention and maybe even be scanned.

Information Hi all

Hello to all!

I've been looking into fan restorations of films for a while. I discovered fanres a few days ago when looking into Marvel films, as I'm doing a marathon at the moment and was wondering if there were alternate copies available out there.

I'm intrigued by the projects I've seen on here and will do whatever I can do to contribute. I don't have much to offer but am happy to discuss film and restoration with anyone willing to! I did a Master's paper on old film restoration and have been fascinated by the process for years.

Looking forward to being part of the community!

Hello everyone,

I am George from Athens. I started collecting old Disney movies for my daughter and found the forum while searching "The Sword In the Stone" OAR release, a few days ago. The amount of effort and work you have done is astonishing.

I am a VFX professional so I am all about digital video for 20 years now. Before YouTube I was also part of a scene release group, capturing and encoding music videos. If anyone needs any help for any projects let me know. I don't have any resources but I can help with image processing, encoding, syncing, etc. I will keep an eye on the Requests, proposals, help board too.

Best regards

Death Machine 1994 Looking for right color grading
Posted by: Nfsfan83 - 2020-04-24, 08:48 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (20)

Guys,

I want your help. I have Death Machine 1994 German DVD, I love this movie and my version is uncut. But I want find right color grading.

This is my version:

Like you see in some scenes there are too much blue color.  I know it is BD version but I prefere more my DVD.

Here are screens from, I think US DVD 4:3

In the scene with the elevator, the color is most different.

So my request is, if someone have US DVD or Laserdisc or any VHS, please give some screens for comparison.

  Help resyncing "The Terminator"
Posted by: Dinsdale - 2020-04-24, 06:02 PM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (4)

Hey everyone

I need some help, as I'm either doing something wrong and/or missing something.

What I want to accomplish is take my 2012 Blu-ray of "The Terminator" and add the mono mix.

I've read the thread HERE on Original Trilogy, and I've eventually aquired the following mixes which all run for 1:47:24.

- T1 mono 1995 Image LD Team Blu.dts
- T1 mono sync Chace Remix 1985.aac
- T1 mono sync 2001 SE DVD.aac

So, since I have them, I thought "Why not add them all to give me the ultimate choice on the fly. I want to also keep in the 5.1 remix."

I am using tsmuxer to do this. It works, but it's out of sync. The reason being is that the MGM Lion Logo is not present on the 00000.m2ts file. It goes straight to the Orion logo. When I put the Blu-ray into a player, of course it shows the MGM logo. On the disc. this is a separate track, it seems.

So, I tried adding a delay that is suggested on the OT thread, which is +8950. I would think if anything, I need to go -8950. -8950 gives me better results, so I just need to know the correct delay which I will have to work out.

Then, this will leave me with a blank screen while the audio for the MGM logo appears. Not ideal, but it gives me an alternative choice, I can live with the MGM logo, but how do I add it from the other stream... there's actually the following streams on the disc.

00000.m2ts - the film itself, starts with the Orion logo and runs 1:47:03
00001.m2ts - lasts for 1 second and is just blank
00002.m2ts - MGM logo that lasts for 7 seconds
00003.m2ts - MGM logo that starts with a cats eye that lasts for 16 seconds

Now, if I go through TMPGEnc and add the main title, I get the full MGM logo and film in one track - 1:47:18 - but I also get an error saying all audio tracks can be decoded, and I'm left with Spanish and other languages. I can output the video, so I can get the raw video, and I can add the mono mixes - but I lose the 5.1 mix, which seems to be only 1:47:03 long.

Is there an easier way to do this? It's been driving me nuts all day.

Hey everyone

Came here in search to PM someone about something I saw him post on another site (but I can't register for that site due to a technical issue they need to sort). Anyway, had a browse around and think I'll stay. I love the passion here.

I've been cleaning up audio on VHS conversions of 80's/90's wrestling broadcasts origiinally recorded on VHS, with mostly positive results. I may just stick around and help/get help where possible.

I'm a dab hand in TMPGEnc Authoring Works and I'm starting to learn Adobe Premiere too.
