Never watched a trailer of this film before actually watching it, so I didn't know what to expect; my daughter insisted to watch it - she's a teenager, but she likes CGI cartoons - so do I, but don't tell anybody
While I was watching at the cover, I thought it was another cartoon, so I was surprised to actually discover it was a live action film indeed.
I won't tell anything about the story because I don't want to spoil it, but I can say it's a very nice movie, refreshing, fun - even if it's a bit exagerated sometimes, nothing in comparison to superheroes movies by the way... very good FX, music, acting... great show for any creature lovers as we are here!
Last thing: if Rogue One used the same CGI, we would not hate Bor Gullet so much, I think...

Aliens (1986) [Fundamental Collection™ #002] V2

From the back cover: “Latest Blu-ray editions of “Aliens” have very good resolution, but they received a new color treatment, and almost everything is green tinted… In this edition, we used the same master found in the PAL LD, taken from the interpositive, as color reference, using our proprietary technique ColourMatch™, to obtain a more balanced image, closer to the theatrical representation, according to our renowned expert.
We also added the usual multiple languages tracks – English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – along with an English commentary as special bonus tracks; subtitles for all the languages, plus French, German and Italian for the commentary.”

Recommended BMD setup for color grading |

On BronzeTitan's recommendation, I decided to give my planned PC hunt its own thread, since it involves a certain something called Black Magic Design, or BMD for short.
Right now, I'm looking for the following specs in my next PC:
- An Intel i7 Kaby Lake processor (if I'm to future-proof for 4K Ultra HD, of course)
- An NVIDIA 1070 or 1080 processor
- At least 16 GB RAM
- At least 1 or 2 TB hard drive space
In addition, I'm going to need a second monitor and BMD output. Any recommendations for what the second monitor should be? And for the BMD output, as far as externals are concerned should I go with UltraStudio?
My goal here, in case someone hasn't figured it out, is to get myself a machine capable of top-notch color grading in Resolve for the projects I plan to release under the (tentative) Gold Standard Collection label, the first of which will be restorations of Sergio Leone's films. All GSC films I intend to release in at least 1080p HD, with maybe a DVD copy in the ISO format right along with each of them.

There seems to be a bug in the "thanks" system; I see some posts "thanked" twice of three times by the same user...
Feallan, may you check this? I saw the plugin has not any settings, so maybe it doesn't like the latest mybb version.

The Blade Runner Collection
Picking up from here:
https://fanrestore.com/thread-226.html
This is a sequel to my Blade Runner International Cut regrade. Originally, the goal was to just regrade the Director's Cut BD to look like the Warner Bros DC laserdisc but now it has changed into a collection of regrades. This will form an alternative to the officially released Blu-ray boxset.
So instead the Theatrical Cut (TC), International Cut (IC), Director's Cut (DC), Workprint (WP) and Final Cut (FC) cuts of the official boxset, this project includes a newly regraded IC that matches the colors of the Criterion Collection laserdisc and a restored TC without the happy ending graded using 35mm elements and deleted scene as a color reference. Finally, the collection will be capped off with a newly regraded Director's Cut which matches the Warner Bros Laserdisc and includes the extra violence from the IC. This will be called the Restored Director's Cut.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Blade Runner Restored Director's Cut (regraded to the Warner Laserdisc - v1.0)
Project Info:
This is an attempt to both regrade the Director's Cut BD to look like the Warner Bros' DC laserdisc and also recut the DC to its intended form as it was suppose to have premiered in 1992. To further expand: the DC was basically the US theatrical cut with the additional unicorn scene added and the "happy ending" removed. As conceived, it was suppose to incorporate the more violent International Cut footage (Tyrell, Priss and nail scenes) but they were left out due being unable to find the footage in the given time constraints. This project restores those brief bits back into the DC cut, creating a "restored" Director's Cut.
Video:
Blu-Ray of the Director's Cut (DC) regraded to the Warner Bros laserdisc with footage from the IC cut.
Audio:
1. PCM 2.0 (from the Warner Bros Director's Cut LD with no narration mixed with the IC's Laserdisc PCM 2.0 for the violence additions)
2. Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the Warner Bros Director's Cut BD with no narration mixed with the IC's BD for the violence additions)
3. PCM 2.0 Isolated score (maybe)
Pics:

2. Blade Runner International Cut (regraded to the Criterion Collection Laserdisc - v2.0)
Project Info:
This is an attempt to take my initial regrade here:
https://fanrestore.com/thread-226.html
and rework the overall pictures and fix some a lot of spots. I added luma (enhancing contrast, shadows and highlights) from the original BD to create picture has a little less flat-ish look which is inherited to the laserdisc. It's a subtle change but one I feel is better. I also went through and corrected 6 scenes 456 shots to make them slightly more accurate to the LD and graded an additional 20 shots to make sure the picture "flows" better.
Video:
Blu-Ray of the International Cut (IC), regraded to the Criterion Collection laserdisc with some luma recovered from the original BD grade
Audio:
1. PCM 2.0 (from the Criterion Collection International Cut LD-Narration) (New Version)
2. Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the Warner Bros International Cut BD-Narration)
3. PCM 2.0 (from the Warner Bros Director's Cut LD-No Narration mixed with the IC's Laserdisc PCM 2.0 and parts of musical score to fill the gaps)

Original Toy Story theatrical trailer--IN 3D |

What I would like to do is to recreate the above trailer faithfully using clips from the 3D Blu-ray, as soon as I can acquire it. I will also need someone better at 3D graphics than I for certain elements, including the film title coming in during the sequence depicting Buzz "flying" (or, as Woody put it at the time, "falling with style"). As for the PIXAR logo and the final tag, I think I can do them myself. In fact, I believe those will be the first elements I'll be able to acquire in HD at present.
When this project gets underway, I'll do different versions of the 3D recreation, including with different Disney or PIXAR logos, mainly for purposes of experimentation.

Timeline (2003) [Fundamental Collection™ #010]
![[Image: Timeline_cover.jpg]](https://s3.postimg.cc/qtqv10z6b/Timeline_cover.jpg)
From the back cover: “The movie was released only in Italy, Japan and Spain on Blu-ray, and there are no plans about future releases in other countries. It was filmed in Super 35mm, and in this edition you have the opportunity to watch it in full open matte; at the contrary of the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 as intended by the director to be seen in the theaters, here you get a 1.78:1 frame, with no image loss at both sides, and with more details on top and bottom, leaving no black borders when viewed on any 16:9 display.
Original source was the 2K scan of the original negative; colors and contrast were slightly tweaked, and a real 35mm grain plate was added at the end, to improve the video quality; this is, so far, the best HD open matte version of Timeline available!
As usual, multiple languages tracks are present – DTS for English, and DD for French, German, Italian and Spanish audio, full subtitles for all the languages, plus forced ones for German, Italian and Spanish, specially made for this edition.”

The Ring (2002) Blu-ray Color Correction |

I’ve finally decided on what my very first project will be: The Ring.
The Ring (2002) is one of my favorite horror movies. Unfortunately, the Blu-ray release is even scarier than the movie itself. It suffers from an EXTREME green tint throughout the whole movie. While the movie was always very cool in its palette (which matches the mood quite nicely), the Blu-ray takes it to a whole other level. Fortunately, the DVD’s colors are much better. So, I’m going to use Dr. Dre’s Color Matching and Color Balancing tools to fix this thing.
I tried using the Color Matching tool without the Balancing, but Balancing first gave better results.
Here’s a comparison:
DVD vs. Blu-ray: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/207981
I’ve done a quick test with the tool on this screenshot with promising results:
Blu-ray vs. Corrected and Balanced Blu-ray: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/207980
DVD vs. Corrected and Balanced Blu-ray: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/207979
It’s not perfect, but it is MUCH better. In addition, you may notice slight cropping issues with the BD-to-BD comparisons, those are my doing, and certainly wouldn’t be present on the release. The slight pixellation in the corrected BD shots are also my fault, not the tool's.
Fortunately, the tint seems to be fairly consistent across the movie, so I might not need to do a shot by shot correction, though it is a definite possibility.
