LIST OF OPEN MATTE AND VARIABLE ASPECT RATIO MOVIES

Updated 2018-01-24 - 3092 entries!

At the moment, there are almost more than 3000 entries, and, even leaving only titles and few data, the list will still be cut in a quarter, maybe, if posted here, due to space constrain; so, I've decided to not post titles here anymore, but leave them all in the master list:

Hope you would appreciate all the hard work behind compiling and maintaining the list updated; as usual, additions and corrections are welcome.

Have fun!

Exclamation open matte & full screen main thread
Posted by: spoRv - 2017-01-06, 05:41 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (137)

Because there is an increasing interest in open matte and full screen versions of movies, I think it's time to start a main thread about this, a bit like the one found on our preferred Russian tracker.

Its main goal is to find out eventual differences between full screen, open matte and letterbox version of the same move, and *eventually* help project maker to release an AAP-AR version using two or three sources. Also, to have confirmation (or denial) of a DVD/BD/WEB release, or if it's available only on HDTV/DTV/ATV etc. - images and comparisons are extremely welcome! Big Grin
Note that quite often 1.85:1 are released in home video with a 1.78:1 where there are top and bottom "slices".

Note: I copied and edited some posts that I feel relevant from the open matte master list thread; if you want to just add/correct titles which are not in the list, with no thoughts or pics, please post there, thanks!

Few and simple rules:
Title of the movie should be in bold, to facilitate grasping it in the post
OAR = original aspect ratio : the one found in theaters and in most home video versions
OM = open matte : here, it would be referred to 1.78:1 aspect ratio
FS = full screen : here, it would be referred to 1.33:1 aspect ratio
P&S = pan & scan : avoid to post a pan&scan title only, unless it contains more image than letterbox version
(when I write 2.40:1, it could be indeed 2.39:1 or 2.35:1, generally referred to anamorphic filmed movies)

  Sorcerer (1977) LD PCM
Posted by: IcePrick - 2017-01-06, 02:04 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (28)

Anybody have this Laserdisc?

http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/02992/12009/Sorcerer

The Blu-ray 5.1 remix is quite revisionist, even more so than most 5.1 remixes, most notably *SPOILER ALERT* by adding a gunshot sound effect to the final shot.

If someone happens to have the LD and can rip the audio, then I hereby express interest in seeing it ripped and synced to the Blu-ray.

EDIT: I'm seeing now that the French BD has an English Stereo option. Don't know if it's the original mix or a downmix. If it's the former, then the LD might not be necessary.

  Normal rendering times?
Posted by: Evit - 2017-01-04, 03:00 PM - Forum: Audio and video editing - Replies (13)

I'm at my first rendering of/exporting a 98mins on Adobe Premiere with many effect layers and I'm wondering how normal is to have 55-60 hours expected rendering time with my computer set-up (i7 4790 CPU, 16GB RAM, GeForce GT 730 graphic card) Dodgy
(I usually edit 30 minutes videos from FUll-HD files with a great deal of additional layers and it takes them 1 or 1 1/2 hours. Working with 720p source renders almost in real-time)

  The Crow original sound mix?
Posted by: Stamper - 2017-01-03, 08:38 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (38)

hey guys, anyone knows what would be The Crow original sound mix ? There's apparently a very cheap UK DVD in full screen with the stereo track (probably is Dolby Surround?), the current mixes on Blu-ray are crappy and not the original sound. Thanks if anyone can help. If you have an old LD, you're welcome to rip it Wink

  Exported video has 'glitches'
Posted by: crissrudd4554 - 2017-01-01, 08:37 PM - Forum: Converting, encoding, authoring - Replies (38)

Hello, from 2011 til about a year and half ago my preferred video editing and DVD burning software was Nero 10. However, a year and a half ago I noticed that when ever Nero exports videos now it tends to have 'glitches', square boxes that pop up from time to time. I had used this software countless times without this issue. For months I was going back and forth on the Nero forum trying
to find a solution to no prevail. I tried dozens of suggestions. Checking for software updates, changing quality settings, converting files to a different format, no help. I even upgraded to the 2016 Nero hoping maybe this would solve the problem. It did not not. In the past year I've tried Nero on three different computers. An Acer laptop, an HP laptop (the one I'm currently typing on), and a desktop put together by my upstairs neighbor. The glitches appeared in all three instances. Below is a few screen grabs to illustrate my point. Is the problem Nero?? The Computer(s)?? Both?? I don't think it has to do with the format of the videos since this has been occurring with basically every video I've tried converting regardless of format. I'm possibly considering switching to Cyberlink PowerDirector should I not find away around this.

Fix interlaced footage previously saved as progressive?
Posted by: Booshman - 2017-01-01, 03:35 PM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (20)

Just wondered if anyone can chime in and let me know if it is an any way possible to fix progressive footage that wasn't properly IVTC or de-interlaced before.

I have a lot of frames that look like this:

My gut tells me no, but I know the avisynth wizards may have some tricks I don't know about.
