  Sid & Nancy [In]Complete Collection
Posted by: Elmo Oxygen - 2016-03-23, 02:35 AM - Forum: Released - Replies (4)

Currently up on Karagarga and MySpleen. The images look smushed, but that is VLCs fault, the discs are in the correct aspect ratio.

"This should be as complete a mainstream filmic picture of the life and death of Sid Vicious as currently can be provided. See the notes below or take a look at the sources page also below.

Yes, you have the movie and virtually every extra created for any of the discs worldwide, but also tons of other material about Sid Vicious from the documentaries made about him and The Sex Pistols and all of their music.

As you can imagine, this took forever to put together, and eventually was made with many different types of DVD authoring software. I'm not happy with the visual clarity of the text on disc 2, which was the unavoidable downside of using DVD Lab Pro, which is pretty great in all other ways. However, rather than scrap the whole project, I decided that it was worth sharing, as everyone can do a little squinting from time to time. For those who think they have a solution, I talked with DVD Lab Pro experts and followed their directions, using the fonts and color schemes they suggested, importing flattened PSDs into DVD Lab Pro, and still got the same results.

The variety of clips that I've cut together from the various documentaries and mockumentaries about Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen are usually accurately described by the title, are not a reflection of what I think, but should give you an overall picture of the many ways the same stories can be told from various perspectives, and because I've already gone through them, it means you don't have to watch some of the more navel gazing and tedious indulgences of the directors behind The Great Rock N' Roll Swindle, Who Killed Nancy?, the cynical cash-in Who Killed Bill?, and Abel Ferrara's Chelsea on the Rocks.

Morbid biographical story of Sid Vicious, bassist with British punk group the Sex Pistols, and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. When the Sex Pistols break up after their fateful US tour, Vicious attempts a solo career while in the grip of heroin addiction. One morning, Nancy is found stabbed to death and Sid is arrested for her murder.

There's probably more stuff too, but you're no doubt exhausted reading this.

  2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) 35mm Auction - Incomplete Reels

I know the OT has this Cinerama 70mm preservation thread going on, and this may not fit their criteria, but a rip of the 4-channel soundtrack might be worth examining.

  Manhunter blu ray question
Posted by: mj0012 - 2016-03-20, 06:35 AM - Forum: Movies, TV shows and other - Replies (10)

Does anyone have the UK optimum or German Studio Canal blu ray release of Manhunter? I just watched it streaming through Amazon prime and amazingly it's a 1080p version of the old "wrong" theatrical cut that was on the 2001 Anchor Bay dvd. I know the US MGM blu ray is the correct theatrical version so I was curious if this edit was on the European blu rays or if this was just some weird thing for VOD.

[Query] Star Trek Specials on TV ... Airings
Posted by: Jetrell Fo - 2016-03-19, 06:05 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - No Replies

Now I know Myspleen seems to carry some of this stuff but I was wondering if there is any interest here in putting together some of this stuff for the enjoyment of being able to watch it as you remember seeing them on TV? More for nostalgia probably.

Does anyone have any Star Trek specials recorded on VHS from TV that might be of use towards this end? I'd like to keep it NTSC based but if there is PAL that we can convert for use that would be useful as well.

  Eragon extended cut

I wonder if, somewhere in the world, there is a BD (or HD-DVD, or HDTV) extended cut - theatrical + extended/deleted scenes found on DVD.

If not, maybe using the PaNup technique to insert them into the BD *could* be interesting...

  Underworld trilogy
Posted by: spoRv - 2016-03-17, 09:53 PM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (35)

Few days ago, I rewatched Underworld trilogy (fourth ep. is still missing from my BD collection) and I had some ideas...

1) Underworld unrated version, using theatrical colors - I'm pretty sure they differ quite substantially
2) "Lycans" with improved brightness and/or contrast - it's a bit too much dark, like AVP2
3) putting them in chronological order - first using the prologue from Und. Evolution, attached to the whole "Lycans" except the last snippet, leaving Viktor in the coffin as the last scene; then Und. "as is", but replacing the Sonya flashback using "Lycans" scenes instead (with proper regrading and flashback effect, if possible); at the end, Und. Evolution, without the prologue and subsequent Selene's narration.

Opinions?

  [proposal] The Warriors Theatrical

I know that there was talk of someone doing this over at OT but not sure if that project is still alive?

What I was going to try was to try and improve the quality of the iTunes 1080p version I have and then take parts of it to replace the changed footage in the blu-ray. The blu-ray has significnaly better pq so would look to add some grain to the iTunes parts to make the transitions as smooth as possible. There aren't too many parts that need changing so shouldn't take too long.

Is there a recommended way to add grain to an mkv or mpg file? I know a few people have talked about doing it in other threads so any help would be appreciated.

Big Grin Hello all, big James Bond fan from UK
Posted by: termfly - 2016-03-16, 07:12 PM - Forum: Presentation - Replies (3)

Hi to all,

Thanks for providing a great forum, I figured it was time to (finally) introduce myself. I have been learning about film soundtracks for the last couple of years and finding out that extra channels does not necessarily mean better sound quality. So I am discovering that I am something of a purist at heart. I have heard some uncompressed mono laserdisc soundtracks, and the remixed multi-channel ones simply do not compare.

In the long-term, I want to start creating remuxes of my own and sharing them with the forum. My priority would be remuxing the original mono and Dolby laserdisc soundtracks of the James Bond films (the ones that haven't already been captured) to the best available video source. This may take a while, but when I get into something I tend to dig in obssessively until a project is completed.

Thanks again, looking forward to learning about the laserdisc capturing process!
