Stripes - Theatrical cutIn Europe Stripes was only released in HD in its extended edition (which I call the bloated edition) with new dubbings for each country. I'm working on a release of the theatrical cut of the film that will also include original audio tracks in French, Italian, German and Spanish and some color tweaks where needed, if possible.

 Sources:
 - Stripes extended cut Blu Ray
 - Stripes theatrical cut (amazon-produced barebone Blu-Ray from a VOD version, presumably)
 - original European dubs from either Netflix, DVDs or VHS (depending on availability).

 Proposed final format:
 Video: 1080p, 23.976fps.
Audio (all in 2.0 dolby digital 384kbps): original stereo mix in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish + new European dubs from 2005 + Audio commentary 192kbps.
Subtitles: English, German, Italian, French, Spanish + audio commentary subtitles.
I'm planning a digital release for this title.

Thanks to:The fullscreen DVDs of HP 1,2,4,5,6 are 1.33:1 open matte, but, apart in rare cases where there is a bit more image (and a lot less), they are in practice contained within the 1.78:1 frame; for this reason - and also because they are low res - they will not be taken in consideration
HP 1, 2, 4, 5 are open matte
HP 3 on HDTV is mainly cropped but has more image than fullscreen DVD on both sides, even if cropped in comparison to widescreen; it retains few lines of image more on top and bottom; on DVD it is pan & scan
HP 6 is similar to HP 3, but retains a bit more few lines in comparison; actually, this is applicable only to cropped scenes; there are many scenes which are open matte
HP 7 is mainly cropped, with around 14% shots open matte, notably the whole "three brothers" scene, and 3% pan&scan
HP 8 is mixed cropped and open matte
HP 6, 7, 8 have logo that would be wiped away using a second (and third, where available) source
HP 7 best currently available version is 720p (new high bitrate Freeform capture) 1080i MPEG-2
HP 7 and 8: an eventual variable aspect ratio release could be taken in consideration as a side project
HDTV for all films (and also WEBdl for HP 5) would be used as main sources
HDTV would benefit of deblocking and a 35mm grain plate, as well as the WEBdl
Of course, the usual 5 languages (audio and subs tracks) would be added - all of them are available
bonus: Hungarian audio and subtitles tracks for all films, English 2.0 audio description track for HP 6, 7 ,8
 babouin for HP 1 (missing parts), 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 - 1080i MPEG-2 high bitrate, general help
 OperatorIV for HP 6, 7, 8 - 720p MPEG-2 high bitrate
nightstalkerpoet for two HP 7 576p 16/9 AVC low bitrate, general help
maksnew and vouka for HP 7, 8 720p AVC low bitrate, HP 8 "Imax" SD AVC low bitrate
 maksnew for HP 3, 6, 7, 8 WEBdl
Papai 2013 for HP 6 576p 4/3 AVC high bitrate
Chewtobacca for PCM -> DTS-HD MA encoding
menzerin for general help, Hungarian audio/video tracks

 Extended/deleted scenes list: https://fanrestore.com/thread-1507.html

 List of glitches so far:

 HP2 - frame 78836 0h54m48s + frame 79738 0h55m25s - fixed frames one + two | fixed clips one + two
HP4 - first dozen second stuttering - fixed clip
 HP5 - frame 46161 0h32m05s + frame 46180 0h32m06s - fixed frames one + two | fixed clip
 HP8 - frames 36315-9 0h25m14s - fixed frames one + two + three + four | fixed clip

I ask for your help here; please, if you notice any other glitch/problem/whatever, please let me know!

REMASTERED VERSIONS proposal here (ETA: ?!?)

This thread about the 1982 film, not the 2017 one. Please start another thread to discuss that.
I'm primarily interested in the look of the film, the differences between versions, and the various audio mixes.  While the the color-cast found on the branching BD is the beginning of the revisionism seen in the FC, it is relatively light, and it's possible to remove it and leave something that approaches the look of the first DVD (but without the awful pink/red look).

top: branching BD; bottom: quick regrade

 ![[Image: br1.png]](https://s28.postimg.cc/hrbo36fm5/br1.png)
 ![[Image: br2.png]](https://s28.postimg.cc/mr94b4l8t/br2.png)
 ![[Image: br4png.png]](https://s28.postimg.cc/ja7285m6l/br4png.png)
 ![[Image: br5.png]](https://s28.postimg.cc/4s9v05uvh/br5.png)
 ![[Image: br3.png]](https://s28.postimg.cc/9bm3locr1/br3.png)
In fact, my suspicion is that once the cast is removed, the branching BD comes fairly close to the film's original look(s).  I also think that, pre-FC, the film was rather inconsistent when it comes to color: the shots of the city at night are quite nice, but all the scenes in the Bradbury building look drab, the part in which Deckard interrogates Rachel is a nasty red (far better in the FC), and the scenes in Deckard's apartment don't gel particularly well with the appearance of the rest of the film (especially the light that spills in through the windows).

Don't get me wrong: I love the production and share the common view that the FC went too far in its revisionism; it's just that I feel that it had a point too, which was that the film needed a more consistent image, one that would play into its futuristic setting.  If you focus on objects that are less affected by the teal and orange, the colors often appear quite rich and striking.  And some scenes could use a tint.

I've heard that the 5.1 on the branching BD has some changes from the '92 DC.  Does anyone have any information about this?

I think we need a thread were to post random thoughts about our projects - future, past, in progress - without cluttering the eventual proper threads... a place also to ask for opinion, throw ideas... so, if something would not be actually used in this or that project, it will stay only here!
I start: lately I'm thinking to put apart color regrading, you know, just to change something, and continue with open matte - as it seems there is some interest in this, apart from me, obviously!

Some projects in the drawer are almost ready, but they are too... easy
so I wanted something more challenging... there are, of course, open matte DVDs that were (and will be) upscaled to HD, but there are other sources that still need a good upscale; I'm thinking about several 720p, that could benefit of a bit of cleaning...
So, here you are my last attempt; Deep Rising open matte 720p, and BD screenshots from blu-ray.com:

 https://s2.postimg.cc/9a1f41wax/Deep_Ris...ouched.png
 https://s2.postimg.cc/hpme7t9s9/Deep_Ris...hanced.png
 https://s2.postimg.cc/fv9jq2mrt/Deep_Rising_Blu-ray.png

Here you can see that enhanced version is almost on par with Blu-ray (maybe due to downscaled BD image; further tests are needed)

 https://s2.postimg.cc/gej8d33k9/Deep_Ris...ched_2.png
 https://s2.postimg.cc/nrymc1nm1/Deep_Ris...nced_2.png
 https://s2.postimg.cc/3uo3pcfd5/Deep_Ris...-ray_2.png

Here, at the contrary, the Blu-ray it's quite better, in particular if you zoom in to see better the details; but this is expected in a shot like this, with all these tiny particulars that are lost in the source due lower resolution and bitrate; but make a comparison between the untouched and the enhanced; Avisynth doesn't stop to amaze me everytime!

The Lost Room (2006) had a rubbish dvd release back in the day.  So of course the best going around for awhile were HDTV rips.the best rip that I ever found is around 4.3gb per part (1 of 3),.Im away from my main computer to check the details of the files.

Does anyone know of a better copy?  EDIT: I know a new webrip as appeared within the last year or so.  Good to finally see it at least streaming for the public.
I'll get the amzn webrip and compare to the sources.
The mini-series is absolutely fantastic BTW for anyone that hasn't seen it.

Im looking for advice on manipulating the most detail out of screen shots. Im talking items in the background, text on objects, physical properties, ect. Currently, im using virtualDub to extract frames in TARGA. I then take it into photopshop and save it as a TIF, and work with it from there.

Id like to be able to enlarge parts of the frame (or the whole frame) for peeping digitally, or maybe even for a large format print.  Ive tried some SR but havn't had great results. I've read on SR and understand the theory,  but could use any input on practical applications and software to use.

Anyone have any input on the matter?
