  Alien 3 (1992) [Fundamental Collection™ #003]

Alien 3 (1992) [Fundamental Collection™ #003]

From the back cover: “Despite “Alien 3″ colors on Blu-ray editions are similar to the theatrical ones, they are still a bit off, and wrong on few scenes. In this edition, the same 2K master was used, but the one found in the PAL LD, from an interpositive scan, was taken as color reference, using our proprietary technique ColourMatch™.

We also added the usual multiple languages tracks – English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – along with an English commentary as special bonus tracks; subtitles for all the languages, plus French, German and Italian for the commentary.”

  Beginners Guide To Syncing Audio
Posted by: alexp2000 - 2017-04-23, 09:49 AM - Forum: Audio and video editing - Replies (31)

Hello all,

Would really like to start syncing LD/DVD audio tracks to Blu-ray's but am very much a novice so was hoping some of the experts on here could help.

I've read that Reaper is a good tool to use but could use some guidence on how to go about it or if there's a better (easier!) program to use.

Got a lot of projects I want to work on so any tips/advice greatly appreciated!

Information 3D FOR ALL!
Posted by: spoRv - 2017-04-22, 10:54 PM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (5)

I have not a 3D TV, nor I'm so much interested in 3D films, but... you know, I'm curious, so I explored the possibility of watching a 3D source, in 3D, using a 2D display.

The only way I found is anaglyph - the usual red-cyan (or green-magenta, or blue-yellow) glasses, and proper material. I tested it some weeks ago, and the experience was not that good - all colors were way off... then I realize I was watching red-cyan material, using green-magenta glasses! So, I repeated the tests using the proper glasses, and results, albeit far from perfect - were interesting... some colors are still off, but not as using the wrong source-glasses pairing; and the 3D effect is very good!

Then, during these tests, I put out my LD copy of "3D rollercoaster", to try the included glasses, and you know what? They were NOT colored! Instead, just a transparent on one eye, and dark on the other... so, I searched on the net, and found that they used the Pulfrich "effect": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulfrich_effect

Well, long story short, this is a technique to see in 3D any source, with any 2D display! Of course, the effect doesn't work everytime, but, when it works, it's really nice! If you have this kind of glasses (or just sunglasses with one lens only), try it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tN_TPTIrYs (in particular from 17:40). EDIT: great test here http://www.michaelbach.de/ot/lum-Pulfrich/index.html

Pros:
works with every 2D source - no conversion needed
works with every 2D display - no special display needed
works with just proper glasses
same source could be seen with or without glasses at the same time
all colors are retained
no collateral effects

Cons:
static images are always 2D
tilts (up-down pans) are always 2D
lower brightness - just raise brightness/backlight or use "vivid" or "dynamic" mode

So, this is a cheap solution that works only on few scenes but, apart this, and lower brightness (a problem that could be easily solved) I can say that it's worth to watch a film (any film, better if full of action of course) with a pair of Pulfrich glasses on, at least to experience (limited) 3D, with any 2D source and display, without any collateral effects!

Please, post your thoughts and eventual experience of how much of 3D effect you have seen with a given title!

  Text Editing Glitch: BACKSPACE deleting
Posted by: BronzeTitan - 2017-04-22, 07:13 PM - Forum: Bug reports and suggestions - Replies (3)

Sometimes ... with the cursor at the end of a word, I try to backspace (to remove & retype some text) -- but nothing happens. The cursor doesn't move and the text doesn't delete. However, I can SHIFT-BACKARROW to highlight the text and then type over it. This happens randomly (I never notice any leading events that consistently trigger it) and it doesn't happen often. After I work around it, backspacing behaves normally again.

To whoever, happy hunting.

  Edited for music
Posted by: Koopa Luath - 2017-04-21, 12:13 AM - Forum: Recycle bin - Replies (7)

Plenty of TV shows on DVD have had their releases affected in some way by music issues. I think the ones that stick out to me like a sore thumb are 21 Jump Street, The Muppet Show, I'm Alan Partridge, Only Fools and Horses, Sesame Street, Doctor Who, and Open All Hours. Anyone else know any TV shows dragged down by music rights, and where to find uncensored copies that can then be synced up to the general release versions as applicable?

Far from home: The adventures of yellow dog (1995).
Maybe an upscale or webrip.

From the back cover: “Latest Blu-ray editions of “Aliens” have very good resolution, but they received a new color treatment, and almost everything is green tinted… In this edition, we used the same master found in the PAL LD, taken from the interpositive, as color reference, using our proprietary technique ColourMatch™.

We also added the usual multiple languages tracks – English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – along with an English commentary as special bonus tracks; subtitles for all the languages, plus French, German and Italian for the commentary.”

Help needed - someone who would like to finish my bonus projects...
Posted by: spoRv - 2017-04-18, 05:28 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (6)

Too many projects to complete, so I've decided to do only movie-related ones, and left the unfinished extras out... but I'm sad, because they have some interesting material not found anywhere else.

So, if there is someone with technical abilities to release a proper DVD with custom menus, AND willing to finish one or more of them, please let me know.

The ones that I'd like to see finished are (from the most important):

The Arrival
Cube 2: Hypercube
Supernova
Usavich
The Thing

I have also few material related to my other projects that could be used as well.

Waiting for your replies!

Alien (1979) [Fundamental Collection™ #001]

From the back cover: “Recent Blu-ray editions of “Alien” used very high quality master, and their video details are really a decisive improvements in comparison to previous versions. But the color grading is different from the theatrical presentation. In this edition, we used a superior 2K master – the same used for the D-Theater – to get even more details and a bigger image, and the master used for the PAL LD, taken from the interpositive, as color reference, using our proprietary technique ColourMatch™.

We also added the usual multiple languages tracks – English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – along with three special bonus tracks: two English commentaries and the original 70mm track, not available in any other digital versions; subtitles for all languages, plus French, German and Italian for both commentaries.”
