This is a reconstruction of the 1946 cut of Fantasia. Or perhaps I should say the home video cut, as I used the DVD as reference (title card at the beginning, and end credits). 
I used the bluray as source, and the 35mm scan floating around for the uncensored shots (cleaned, enhanced, regraded and regrained). For the interludes, I used the DVD, upscaled, and enhanced the missing scenes, color correcting them to match the bluray interludes grading. Obviously, they're not gonna look as good as a native HD, but I'm happy with the results. I did not regrade the film, except for the said censored shots and the interludes.

I had a bad surprise regarding the audio, though. There is a another restoration floating around that used the laserdisc audio (there seems to be a LD rip and two versions using the DVD as video source). I thought that audio would be in sync with the home video cut... but I was wrong. The guy who did the restoration edited the video, cutting(?) and duplicating frames to syncronize it to the audio. I looked for an alternative audio source, and we were lucky: the spanish dub included in the DVD is the closest (pretty much iddentical, except for the slightly reduced dynamics) to the laserdisc audio. I just needed to add the english interludes narration (no big deal).
But there's more! If you open the LD audio with an editor you'll see it's capped at around 8000Hz, that's why it sound so muffled. I did some work on it, applying several filters to extrapolate the high frequencies (quite an interesting time I had doing this...). The end result is very good. Not going to sound as good as a modern recording (Kostal version, or any other), but it sounds like a huge blanket has been removed from the speakers.

I know there's a version called CCEHD around, but I haven't seen it. I don't know how good my regrade is compared to that version.

As the title says, this is a regrade using the Criterion CCE Laserdisc grading as color reference (actually the first DVD, which used the same master). I used the old bluray as source for my regrade, replacing as many black crushed shots as I could, using the 4K as replacement, avoiding, of course, those awfully digitally tweaked shots. There are also a handful of shots from the canadian and dutch blurays, degrained/denoised, AI enhanced and regrained for consistency.

The digital tweaks probably started in that very first Criterion release (rudimentary power windows), in fact, some shots have been tweaked differently though the years. Like I said, the old bluray is the basis here, still, I replaced a couple of shots that didn't have crushed blacks, but they did have noticeable digital pans, where previous releases (dutch and/or canadian blu rays) didn't. There are still two shots (that I noticed) that have camera stabilization, compared to the 35mm scan floating around (BTW, the scan I've seen doesn't look like I would expect from a bleach bypass process).

Something I'm not entirely satisfied with: the x264 encoding is 8bit, but like I said, I've used many shots from the 4K (which is 10bit). I can see some occasional banding in dark areas because of the conversion.

The audio in this release is the one from the dutch bluray, and, yes!, it does include those lines: "...he's not even 30 years old", "...hot shot...". Good news here.

So, double feature!
As the title says, this is an upgraded/polished 2.0 release of The Matrix. I used a nice collection of 35mm film cells as reference for grading. 
When I did the 1080p degreened version (the first version) I noticed that it matched most of the cells just by removing that awful green blanket, which gave me confidence to finish what started just as a fun project. There were some other shots here and there that required further tweaking, and here the 35mm scan that's been floating around for some time came in handy. It looks horrible, but can help for this little things, like "Neo in boss' office". The 35mm suggests it should look cooler than the old bluray, more like the 4K or the first DVD.  

What I did for v2.0 is polishing the already quite nice first degreened version (I found some more 35mm cells!). Then, I used this degreened version as reference for the 4K release, which is an obvious upgrade from the first grading (and no, I don't have it anymore). There can be some slight differences (brightness, contrast, saturation... nothing too drastic).

The degreened 1080p it's already nice. The 4K regrade?, get this 2.0 version without hesitating. 

Both the 1080p and 4K include the Cinema DTS track!

Not much to say about this one. I don't think there are many fans of this film, one of those guilty pleasure kind of films for me, perhaps for some of you too.
Here it is in all it's glory, fully uncut and uncensored. The way it should be. 

For the missing/censored shots I used the euro DVD, AI upscaled/enhanced, then regraded to match the colors of the bluray, and regrained for consistency.
That's pretty much all about it.
I corrected the contrast, and colors a little bit.
