The David Fincher Project: Seven/Fight Club
Posted by: PDB - 2023-05-02, 05:40 PM - Forum: In progress - Replies (16)

I cancelled this for the time being since the 4K UHD of Seven was just announced.

Project Info:
This is a posting for a future project I'm working on in the background while proceeding with my HDTV/Web-DL project.

Having finished a Panic Room project, I had a desire to work on some other Fincher projects and resurrected two old projects that I never finished. Seven I never posted here. Fight Club was part of my open matte project

https://fanrestore.com/thread-2844.html?...fight+club

for which I lost most of the data in a HDD crash. This is an attempt to bring back at least the OAR part.

I'm hoping at some point I can also resurrect my Zodiac theatrical cut project also

https://fanrestore.com/thread-2922.html?...ght=zodiac

but we shall see.

Video:
This project uses the old Seven transfer as seen in the New Line DVD. The source is the Canadian open matte BD. I tend not to use open matte transfers for recreating OAR projects as they normally are cropped on the sides. In this case I found the Canadian transfer to have more info on the side than the DVD.

So I first IVTC's the BD's 1080i transfer into 1080p. I then cleaned-up compression and some other issues and then upscaled the project to 4K. I lined this upscaled video with the New Line DVD and roughly cropped the OM transfer to match the DVD's 2.39 transfer. Finally I synced this to the timing of the OAR US BD by adding one extra frame.

Since this master is very bright especially compared to the BD, I adjusted the black level and added some contrast. Not as much as the BD but hopefully more pleasing.

Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Cinema DTS discs)
PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the CE LD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the CE DVD)
Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the CE DVD)
DTS-HD MA 7.1 (from the US BD)
PCM 2.0 Commentary (from the CE LD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#1 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#2 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#3 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#4 (from the US BD)

Maybe
1. DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the CAN BD)
2. Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the French DVD)

Sync:
The US BD with one frame duplicated

Video:
This project uses the old Fight Club transfer as seen in the Fox DVD and found on the original German BD. First step for this project was to remove dirt using auto dirt removal tools. Next, I cleaned-up compression and then upscaled the project to 4K. Finally, I synced this to the timing of the US BD.

Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Cinema DTS discs)
PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the JPN LD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the CE DVD)
Dolby Digital 5.1 EX (from the CE DVD)
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#1 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#2 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#3 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#4 (from the US BD)

Maybe
1. DTS 5.1 (from the GER BD)

Sync:
The US BD

Video:
This project uses the Web-DL and HDTV Theatrical cut transfer of Zodiac. It will be a completion of this project, originally from here:

https://fanrestore.com/thread-2922.html

I cleaned-up compression and then upscaled the project to 4K.

Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Cinema DTS discs)
Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the TC DVD)
Dolby Digital+ 5.1 (from the Web-DL)

Sync:
Web-DL

Hello everyone,

I found this forum via a search for an upscaled HD copy of the Millennium. Most posts on this forum are gold to a film nerd like myself. [Image: shy.png]

  AI Subtitle Generation
Posted by: stwd4nder2 - 2023-04-25, 06:46 PM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (5)

I'm currently working on restoring a German film (thread coming soon) that has never had a subtitled public release. I found one source of fansubs, but they're completely out of time, full of errors, and missing dialogue.
Are there any good AI models that can generate subtitles based off an audio track? That would be a helpful start in creating an English friendly release.

Alternatively does anyone here speak German and want to translate an entire film for me?  Big Grin

  Akira - Definitive Version (W.I.P. - I Need Material)
Posted by: metahades - 2023-04-25, 04:54 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - No Replies

Hello, this will be the last publication I make, prior to the official launch of the project that will bring together all the dubbing and subtitles in the world, with the best video source. This will include all the extras with the most subtitles and dubbing.

From row 125, you will be able to see all the material that I have used to date to make the final version of Akira, They are more than 50, which is soon to be done in the synchronization stage of all sources: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...1721557612

PLEASE! Contact me if you have anything on this list or if you have official material that has been dubbed or subtitled (vhs, laserdisc, dvd, blu-ray, tv, among others), Also, if there is material that they do not have, we could get together to buy the missing supplies. I would also really appreciate sharing this post.

This is the material I am looking for in a digital file, to be able to rescue the audios and subtitles for the project:

BULGARIA - VHS Bootleg (contains a voice-over from the communist bloc)

OTHERS! - Do you have material that has been subtitled, dubbed, voice-over, rescore, among others, that is not on this list? It also counts, let me know.

I’m also looking for the LaserDiscs from Japan, the USA, Hong Kong, I have them digitized, but they weren’t made on a domesday, it would be great if someone had them, to send it to Tanks to be digitized in maximum quality.

  Dune (1984): Complete Collection
Posted by: Hydra Spectre - 2023-04-22, 11:21 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (1)

So, here are my ideas for an ideal release of Dune (1984), which compiles the ideal versions of all cuts of the film, as well as English fansubs for foreign-language bonuses.
My ideas for the sources would be:

  • Arrow 4K UHD
  • German Koch Media (now Plaion/Embracer Group) 4K UHD Ultimate Edition
  • Spicediver's 1080p Alternative Edition Redux
  • Japanese Happinet 30th Anniversary Special Edition Box

This is how it would be assembled:
  • Theatrical Cut (Arrow 4K UHD + Arrow 2K Blu-ray; Arrow has 24-bit audio and Dolby Vision; a 4K HDR version would be included alongside a 1080p legacy version; Arrow also has the audio commentaries)
  • Extended Edition (Embracer Group Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Disc 2, Embracer Group has an exclusive semi-4K restoration of this cut)
  • Spicediver Cut (Alternative Cut Redux 1080p Edition)
  • Bonuses from Arrow, Embracer Group and Happinet sources. Embracer Group has an exclusive documentary (in English) and an exclusive interview in German with no subtitles, Happinet has many exclusive interviews, some of which are in French with Japanese subtitles. The French and German interviews would have new English fansubs.

Unfortunately, I probably can't do this as I can't buy any of this and I don't have the equipment to do this task.

  Total Recall 35mm Regrade
Posted by: alexpeden2000 - 2023-04-16, 11:23 PM - Forum: In progress - Replies (7)

Some of you may have seen the Colour Grading Guide thread that I'd started a Total Recall project based on the 35mm SDR scan that's out there..

Slow but steady progresss so far, I'm now at 43 minutes in so thought it was a good time to give it it's own thread.

All done in DaVinci Resolve with the DrDre tool used to create (many!) LUTs

Still a ways to go but will post more updates in due course. Using the Eagle 4K as the base and will include as many audio & subtitle tracks as people want. Any feedback welcome!

Hello there.
I am a moviecollector from Sweden.
Run a movieclub we watch all kinds of films, mostly fanedits and indie movies
I just randomly got news about this forum from another site, this site seems friendly so will follow some projects here.

I have done two small edits myself , some clips only. Really love the idea of fanedits that restore the original look and open matte, then edits that put in ALL deleted scenes that is lovely to watch.

Have a great day all!
/Whisper
