I just started the download, a bit late I know, if there are any other people available to seed it would be greatly appreciated.

Just watched some of Two Towers, definitely not full open matte. Looks more like a pan and scan of scope version, maybe a shade of extra info on top and bottom, there may be a few shots fully open but i haven't found any.

Found one. The wide shot of helms deep. Fully open, top to bottom. Small amount of cropping on either side. @2.14.05

So, the movie(s) aren't available as fully open-matte? (PJ framing his movies on his editor? How disappointing.)

At a quick look, I thought HP7 had just three or four shots open matte; at the end, it had about 14% of them, so never say never, until you have made a direct comparison shot by shot.

They must exist. The Pan & Scan 4:3 versions of TTT and ROTK are almost entirely open matte, so it's too plausible that the full frame 16:9 masters are out there somewhere.
Besides, regardless of PJ's creative decision to present the films in 2:35:1, I can't imagine a scenario where he'd prefer we see the cropped version over the full open mattes. That's like choosing to lose a limb instead of gaining a third.

Two reasons:

1. some of these posting places use a web page to show your picture; you must get the actual picture link in the address bar by clicking on the picture or by right-clicking and selecting "view" of the picture
   
   
2. FanRes uses HTTPS:// ; any picture link must be HTTPS:// ... just manually add the "s" to any http:// picture link
