Small update for those following this project.
I finished the video for the new International Cut regrade v 2.0. I think its a pretty good improvement over the original. Since the audio tracks are already in sync, I can put it together in the next few days. The Restored Theatrical Cut, which is my attempt to build the movie as is what suppose to be released in 1982 (ie IC violence with DC ending and no narration), also is done video-wise. The first track for that is done also: PCM 2.0 from the Warner LD. The second track might be a bit ambitious but I want to see if I can sync the WP track to this, since this is based in-part on the WP. The end result would be a hybrid between the WP and DC soundtracks but I'd get the fun stuff back in: Spinner talk, temp music, father line, final narration, etc. Might work, might not, we hall see. I'm still grading the DC shot by shot and am about 40% done. So cruising right along, for me that is. The whole project scope is constantly updated on the first page. Amazing work, PDB. Your Restored Theatrical Cut sounds like my absolute go-to for now unless someone whips up some fancy new fan edit with selected deleted scenes back in.

Apparently, you kind of inspired that version Falcon. I wanted to do something with the Workprint since I like the ending of the Workprint but I agree with Ridley Scott that the editing is too rough. So I thought to take the best of the IC and DC and put them together to form a "final edit Workprint" or in this case, Restored Theatrical Cut. I figure rather then a fan cut this is as close as I can get to what the movie was suppose to be in 1982. The editing of the TC/IC, Workprint/DC ending jettisoning the happy ending, the IC violence which was removed for ratings purposes in the US and no narration like the Workprint (except at the end) and later the DC. And in particular no Unicorn scene, which which was never in the original movie and is just a Legend outtake contrary to what Ridley says (although I know he did have the idea back in 81/82 and did storyboard it at the time) So I thought it was a pretty cool idea and then going through this thread saw where you said you turn off my IC regrade before the happy ending and I thought well that's just about the same thing. So there you go.

But bar the compression issues it's a great start for a new release

Glad it happened though as it gave me a giggle Ive not really had a chance to see HDR with my own eyes beyond a shop demo in PC World. I gather viewing it on a Standard Screen is akin to listening to a 5.1 mix down-mixed to 2 speakers! Have you managed to check out the UHD disc yourself yet? |
