Awesome to hear the progress PDB; I'm really hyped at the prospect of both the Restored Theatrical Cut, as swell as the Restored Director's Cut.
Seeing as most cuts are getting some much need TLC, is there any interest in regrading the Final Cut to another colour timing, or perhaps to include the little goof fixes/ "fixed" ending pigeon shot to some of these in-progress regrades?
I can live with most of the quirks of the various cuts (out of sync Abdul audio, spinner wires, etc) but that daylight factory shot of the pigeon ascending in all cuts prior to the FC seems so retrograde and obsolete now after the Final Cut.

In the interest of balance and healthy debate, that 'corrected' shot is my least liked aspect of the FC.
While I can't argue that it isn't peculiar in context, the blue sky shot is evocative, beautiful (in isolation) and I like the filmmaking story it tells.
The FC version is so overwrought and photoshopped that it pops me out of the film more than any discontinuity in weather could. A true fix, for me, would be a happy medium - a darkened sky (early dawn, perhaps) added to the original shot without all the try-hard neon and smoke.

I agree with Jonno, the FC shot is the only shot I don't like in the FC. I much prefer the original shot.

I don't like any digital change in the Final Cut. This is a 1982 movie, so before the digital era. I hate that they reshot the woman's face to paste it on the stunt double, especially since she aged a lot in between. I don't like that they reshot Ford's son to paste his mouth for resynchonizing purposes in the discussion with Abdul ben Hassan. Now it f**** up the French dub that initially took advantage of the desynchronization. I don't like that they erased the cables over the flying car that were the reason of the raining scene in the first place. The same goes with Back to the Future 2: the Delorean landing in the alley under hard rain that's there to hide the cables. That's 1980's reasonning because of limitations of the era. The Final Cut, to me, is like the Star Wars Special Editions, but more tastefully done.

I'm all for the stuntman change to the real actress. True they effed up the sync of the french dub (and probably every dub) by fixing the mouth goof, but weren't the dub adjusted accordingly?

Yeah I don't want to pile on but everyone here covered my feelings on the FC. I love Blade Runner in all it's forms but the FC it my least favorite. It feels like Scott went to a movie flubs site and just fixed all the errors listed. IT just felt cynical, you know? I just prefer the movie to be as close as it can be to the '82 release (or '91/92 in case of the DC).
Having said that, capturing the UHD into 1080p/SDR was my attempt to see if there was a project there and the results were still pretty green biased and not worth the time correcting it. Maybe someday I'll regrade the FC (when the UHD is ripped) but not for this project.

Got it; I had no idea that the FC is so unpopular around here, but I understand and agree with the reasoning. Out of curiosity PDB, what edits in the FC make it feel more cynical than the DC to you?

I watched the deleted and extended scenes for the first time in a while. It seems they originally had a go at fixing the dove shot in post - there's a curious optical effect version included there. It's a little odd and the blue sky is still more effective, but it's interesting to see that it's clearly been a bugbear for Scott since day one.
I hope that reel is bumped up to HD at some point - like all the other special features it's still stuck at SD on even the most recent releases.
