[Cancelled] The Crow (LD-1st gen DVD Regrade)
|
Just got some great news, my friend who did the Ransom LD capture for me has the DTS disc on the way to him!
Edit - just to confirm I mean the DTS disc of Ransom not The Crow. Sorry to hijack your thread PDB it's just this is the last place I spoke about it. Thanks given by: stwd4nder2 , dvdmike

Just an update. I think my LD player is gone. I can't be too angry as it is 27ish years old but I'm hoping I can repair it with new belts. Hopefully that's the issue and only issue. Regardless, I think the DTS LD is out of the picture so the project will be released without it. Thanks given by: alleycat

I don't know if you are on facebook but there is a group called Laserdisc Forever and they seem to be pretty helpful with diagnosis faults and sourcing alternative belts that work etc. There's even a guy who's started 3D printing replacement parts, something called an M Holder than seems to break quite often.

Sorry been out of town. Thanks for the info AC.
Sadly I’m kind of anti-Facebook for a lot of reasons. Sometimes I do regret that. I’m aware of the laserdisc forever forum via culture dog’s and laserdisc home theater’s YouTube pages. I actually miss ldht’s YouTube page which seems to have been deleted because of some drama? He had an amazing setup. The guy really seemed to be our our wavelength. Culture dog also. Anyway laserdisc forever seems to have all but replaced lddb’s forums. The new default for ld info. I just wish it wasn’t on Facebook. Regardless, one of our regular here was nice enough to send some info my way and I feel more confident about fixing my player. Just not sure it will be up and running for this project.

No worries - it's not ideal being on facebook. Even if you use facebook the search option is nothing like a forum and there aren't categories etc. I saw someone recently purchased a laserdisc themed domain name and was asking if any web designers wanted to use it to create a site to archive everything - not sure where that went. Anyway hope you get your player working.

I'm on facebook but not in this laserdisc forever group, I have to say that as a resource the lddb and it's forum are hard to fault, unless there is some major issue I am unaware of? On the forum you have regular knowledgeable posters there (and thankfully disclord's posts were archived after his passing) including repair technicians and members recreating spare parts that are no longer available like the motor holder. On top of that most problems that can arise with players have been addressed and there is a huge archive of user/service manuals. I will admit there is the occasional drama but well, ahem, we are all guilty of that from time to time, and I don't think those MUSE discs are going to be captured any time soon unfortunately.

I am on that group, been for a while it's great getting fans of LD together.
However, it's mostly people sharing pictures and stuff, nothing too technical.

So small update on this. Unlike other lost projects I was able to recover the files for this project from a backup so I'm back working on it.
