Looking for the "right" Terminator 2 color grading...

They're pretty full on sometimes aren't they! I think special mention has to go to the Shout! apologists, they take it to a whole other level.

Just saw T2 3D again in one of the largest screens in Paris. Interestingly, on the 3D DCP, the corridor mall scene looks just like Torsten Kaiser print, with not that much green as the Blu-ray 2D. Also the hospital scene when they visit Sarah Connor, on the DCP the attendentants shirts and trousers are white just like on the old Blu-ray. On the new 2D Blu, they have a green tint.

Why is there a green tint on many films on Blu? Is this something to do with the compression? Or maybe the convert from HDR to Rec709?

It's the new hotness.
You pushed magenta for tube tv's and people want the teal push at home for their flatscreens

We need to check if this happens on one eye of the 3D version. It seems not to be the same master it has way less Edge Enhancement and is fuzzier.

If the workflow is different then maybe (It's MVC encoded rather than AVC). I don't recall a 3D blu ever having the blanket green tint.

It's also worth pointing out that the only 4K 3D DCP is Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (which was also HFR). No-one does 4K 3D as it's unecessary, even the Founder of Legend3D says this. The effect of L-R stereo video is a perceived increase in resolution in the same way as HFR.

Yeah, the yellow/green tint thing is just irritating. It isn't even just old films being regraded, recent releases suddenly have a blanket tint once they hit home media. Compare clips of the finished film that were released online officially around the time of theatrical release (featurettes, etc.) to the same film's home transfer, the colors will be different.

I think dvdmike is dead on about the skewing to make it pop on consumer TVs. (Except to my eye it doesn't pop, especially when the highlights are dulled as is also common these days.) I like the comparison to the old magenta thing, I have been ranting about the magenta for a long time, major releases like The Phantom Menace and Spider-Man looked pink as hell on DVD, and still look too pink now. (Even the 4K UHD of Spider-Man 1 hasn't lost that look!)

Truth be told T1 would probably look the same 'under' the regrain as it was a degrain/cleanup/regrain. Pause and you'll see the DNR.
Anyone else got the new blu yet?

Give me a shout when you have a date. Will try and meet up
I am going to try and go depending on the date also

Hi guys I've checked my calendar and it looks like I'll be able to go see T2 70mm on sunday 14th Jan.

That russian tracker just upped a new open matte version of T2.

It's not genuine, it's made by combining the 4/3 open matte russian DVD with the 2015 Lionsgate master.

- The hybrid is obtained by automatically matching the widescreen (2.35: 1) New Lionsgate Bluray (best unmastered transfer) and full-screen (4: 3) DVD Twister with the goal of getting an open matte (16: 9) version.
- The frame composition was calculated automatically, starting from the intersection of two sources. If there is once an official open matte version, the frame filling will be about the same.
- The vast majority of scenes have a larger frame filling than a widescreen version.
- Both sources are as close as possible to each other in color using automatic color correction.
- Empty areas in the corners of the frame after combining the two sources are filled with a stretched and smeared widescreen.
