Looking for the "right" Terminator 2 color grading...
(2017-05-24, 11:34 PM)zoidberg Wrote: I managed to glean from the back cover the info regarding the MUSE source (it even says that subtitles may be hard to read because of this!) There are 2 liner sheets, one is about Dolby digital and the other is a bizarre rant about squeeze Laserdiscs. I will have another go at translating them. I remember reading a thread on lddb where disclord talked about the hi-vision technical papers recommending 65/70mm telecines for MUSE compression to provide a more stable image and minimise telecine wobble. I doubt that a 70mm element was used for the T2 squeeze, but who knows?
Also dvdmike was right about Aliens, he seems to have a pretty good memory for colour.

Google translate says telecine

It looks pretty damn close to this but with (obviously) worse colour

MUSE lds were telecines too. Film scanning wasn't really a thing back then except for digital composites.

The back cover states that the source was hdtv. Looking at the screenshots on lddb the squeeze does definitely have similar colours to the MUSE disc.

On LDDB the Muse disc is the one with the bluer mall scenes which match Servo's 35mm frames. That's why I've always been curious about it. Those frames also match (within reason) the youtube clip dvdmike posted. All of that went into my regrade tests. Basically, it's always pointed me to a bluer and more purple T2 then what's generally on home video.

These is a ton of matching blue in the squeeze, it's really close to that video

We are talking the second squeeze right? The first I was given a copy of and it didn't look right, as discussed earlier.

If so I'd love to see it.

Never have seen the second squeeze, only the first that is way different from every other home video copy.

God No, it's silly expensive and from research it's the same as all the other home versions, just anamorphic

Except the MUSE.

How come Cameron never had the MUSE disc pulled?

If you are saying that the MUSE LD is the same of the first squeeze LD, it is not!

If you are saying that the MUSE LD is different from every other home video, this could be true.
