Anyway, I found a nice Open Matte DVD of Big Lebowski. Hoping I can find something in HD or higher resolution from the same master to make a good looking hybrid. The fullscreen has kind of a "feel" to it that in my opinion fits the movie very well.
Edit: This master is probably from before the 1999 PolyGram-Universal merger, because it still has the old Polygram logo, which is the reason I was searching for it in the first place. This DVD in particular is PAL, however I see there's an anamorphic NTSC DVD released in 1998 that I think still may reasonably have the Polygram logo and thus the old master. Combining the two, if indeed the same master, might give a good enough image I think. Just have to find it now. It has the UPC 044005653922 / EAN 0044005653922 apparently, does anyone here happen to own it?
THIS might be the 720p upscale from that OM DVD. It looks very good in motion. If no better source is found, I guess overlaying BD over an upscaled DVD would give pretty good results.
Hah, interesting. I actually have an update. In the meantime I was able to get my hands on the NTSC DVD and it has both widescreen and Open Matte on it. So at this point we have two Open Matte DVD sources.
Sadly, they are not the same transfer. It seems to me like they just had their telecine machine that they could set to whatever output format they preferred and then just did 4 separate scans, OM PAL, OM NTSC, Widescreen PAL, Widescreen NTSC. How do I know this? Well, the alignment and colors don't match perfectly, and sometimes the film seems to get stuck a little bit (from glued parts?) and gets distorted, and that distortion seems to vary between the different DVD transfers as well. Not even the OM and Widescreen on the same DVD seem to be the same transfer.

I'm still working on the list, few numbers:
- almost 7500 entries (some titles have double entries, open matte and fullscreen)
- more than 1800 links to open matte or fullscreen sources
- includes UAR and hybrid versions
Now, as I spent thousand and thousand hours on this list in about three years, and it's unique (never seens something like this), I'm thinking to start a crowdfunding to let the list available and get some money that will help also to continue and update current list - I'll add screenshot comparisons, and anamorphic titles, to know which title could not be open matte.
If someone could be potentially interested in this, drop a comment!

I do not know if it was already mentioned, but Thailand got a Rambo (4) DVD release in full 1.85:1 frame, with a bit cut of at the sides, but opened matting at top at bottom, compared to 2.35:1 (or was Rambo (4) even in 2.40:1?).
