Looking for "The Terminator" (1984) theatrical color grading [FOUND]
#21
I've got a lot of T1 35mm frames that Servo and I collected that I used to try to regrade T1 myself. I was kinda left with the conclusion that the current blu-ray is by far the closest with some shots being dead on. I'll have to dig up my notes but the 35mm frames were teal in many places. It seemed the blu went too green and should of been more blue in some spots so there is some latitude for correction there.

I'll try to get some examples and info for you Evit.

That's the kind of research work I was hoping for. I guess you thought it wasn't worth regrading it then, due to the many instances where the BR was actually the same as the 35mm frames?

Great! I'd like to do the Spanish intro, then. My tasks, the way I see it, are:

1. Locate either my Special Edition DVD from MGM or my 2013 remastered Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment;
2. Listen carefully to the dub audio during the intro slide and write down what I hear, and double-check myself just in case there are any errors;
3. Identify the font used by the intro slide (I might need some help on that); and
4. Animate the slide fading in and out over the clean intro.

By the way... is there a clean version of the closing shot that can be used to restore the original version of the closing credits as seen on my Thorn EMI VHS?

Once the intro has been cleaned up from the US text using the DVD mentioned by Stamper as a patch (easier said than done, Leo is testing it with good results but he's not quite there just yet) then I will be able to output it in any language you like, you guys can just pass me the transcription of the narration intro from your own language. It's only a matter of copy and paste once a "clean" version is ready, not a big deal.
The font used originally was Heinlein, if my memory serves me right.

But that's the last thing on the list of things to do.

This German version was for the strongly censored version only, the slightly censored version was without that German text insert...

Did they cut any dubbed part? I imagine it was missing the scene of Terminator fixing himself (eye removal etc(

In the slightly censored Version, without the german Text after the appearance of Arnold Schwarzenegger, only the Eye fixing scene was cutted.
Here is the german languaged cutting comparison to the normal Version:

In the Version with the FSK 16 rating, and the mentioned german text there were about 5 minutes censored. Also with dubbing missing.
The text is instead of the Terminator walking towards the city...
Here is (in German) the complete list of missing scenes in the olk FSK 16 rated Version:

edit:
Seems as if there was another Version on television.
That got, instead of the frozen frame, some other way to show a similar text to the FSK 16 intodruced to the censored Version:

I dunno, there are still parts of the remastered BD which don't match the German DVD or the 35mm frames I've seen. The factory stuff at the end has more of a blue-green tint on the BD, I know that. Also, it does have general green tint and dulled white level issues, I think PDB said that they may have been the result of a poor conversion to Blu-ray color space and that the DCP of the same remaster supposedly doesn't have this problem.

In fact, T1 might not have been the only film where this could have happened. I swear I heard someone say the Aliens DCP also looked less green. I also remember being surprised at the reactions to the Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition BD, because I had seen the theatrical screening and didn't remember noticing that kind of blanket green tint. (Heck, I almost feel like quite a few recent movies have looked more green/teal on home media than I remembered them looking theatrically. I remember taking notice with The Avengers, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Jurassic World...)

Evit, do we still have access to a print in Italy? Or was that only T2?

I can rent both T1 and T2 for... can't remember exactly something between 150 and 200 euro each.

Each? Or is that the combined price for both?
