[Cancelled] Evil Dead Regrade (Japanese Herald Laserdisc)

Two things of note:

1. I think I will do two versions in difference to what Its_auto said. One skewing as close to the LD as possible and one with the magenta/red fix with corrections for luma, highlights and contrast. I will pack both together. So the best of both worlds.

2. For the first version(s), I'm not sure how many fixes I'm going to put back in

Cool! Your projects always impress me. I don't actually spend that much time on this site (you can tell by the fact that I've never made a post before), so I think I've missed the window on some of your recent releases, but this one I want to keep an eye on! Smile

Well then kick up your feet, pull up a chair and have a stay. There are good people and good projects here you probably will enjoy.

Out of curiosity, whatever happened to this project? Like, did it actually ever get finished or is it just in purgatory since I really am interested in seeing the movie in this color grade.

Also on a side note, do you think you'll ever pick this up again now that a 4K UHD version is now released?

I don't think it's been brought up over here yet, but the UHD of Evil Dead has fewer digital changes than the 1080p BD.

From blu-ray.com:

"Just watched it. Looks like this is a combination of the altered and untampered version. All moon shots remain fixed. Rob Tapert in the background is still digitally editied out. Things they left unchaged are the lens flares that were painted out on the blu-ray. The lights painted out in the background when they discovered the bridge is destroyed are left unaltered. The crew member's reflection in the cabin window is back!

PQ is great btw. Glad they kept the OAR. Too bad about the extras."

Definitely useful if someone can rip the UHD disc, but I guess it's up to you whether or not it's worth the effort. I was actually gonna rip it myself but didn't realize my BD burner was on firmware 1.03, so it won't even recognize the disc. Sad

I quite like also how it's the original aspect ratio instead of the widescreen version (Not to knock the widescreen version off much but in the case of this movie, the OAR edges out, besides you could just crop out the top and bottom for a widescreen look if desired).

The 4K release is NOT OAR!!!

OAR is 1.66:1 and not 1.33:1 Tongue

Well my bad, I meant open-matted 1.33:1

Although technically it was originally 1.33:1 and then matted to 1.66:1 for theatrical (But that's just nitpicking at this point).

I think that OAR was 1.33:1, while IAR was 1.66:1 (or 1.85:1, perhaps?)
