WOW I got to watch the Arrow release yesterday and it might just be the most awesome catalog release I've ever seen on home video!!! Amazing!!!
Of course I'm not talking "sharpness/definition" aspect, but pure film fidelity.
That's not to say resolution isn't good. It's actually pretty good and above what I expected for such film. but the texture and colors are just gorgeous!
With a 88+ mbps video encode alone, to leave no artifact behind (at least that I could see), featuring Dolby Vision and one of the best HDR grades for catalog yet. It's neither too bright nor too dark/crushed (which is the most common and infuriating thing in catalog HDR grading for me). What a thing of beauty!
Coupled with 5.1, 4.0 and 2.0 audio tracks, I'd rank it as one of the best catalog packs yet. I can't comment on the extas and commentaries as I don't watch/listen to them (besides trailers, which I love) but it seems to be a nice set too.
User alinskey already captured the Signature Collection LD and PDB has the original LD audio, based on his post. So, I say we stand very close to achieving an "archival/definitive edition status" with this one. A perfect package!
Arrow, please bring us more Universal Pictures catalog to UHD like The Last Starfighter, An American Werewolf in London, Legend, etc.
ps: I hope it's ok post these comments here, I don't mean to hijack the thread. It's intended to help the decision of going forward or adapting the project.
