Not just the ball, the pink toys, too! Everything yellow turned pink in this area.

Yes, sure, but without the tennis ball that will reveal it, the toys colors could pass unnoticed... Apart this shot, the BD colors are not that bad, with the saturation a bit too high for my tastes, and sometimes it has a magenta blanket, albeit subtle; DVD is somehow blueish in comparison, but I guess its the original timing, as the white is spot on. Top BD, bottom UAR:
"Yes, before the snow was blueish, but it was night..."

The pink tennis ball is a major screwup, and affected at least one DCP screening I've seen in the past few years. What's even stranger is the edited for tv version that's aired on AMC in the U.S. has the correct color.
Could you post a screenshot of the Italian typewritten pages?

Sure! also the last shot is in Italian: my plan is to release also an Italian version, where the opening and closing credits, the typewritten text, the picture inscription, and all the text in Italian will be taken from the laserdisc, while the rest will be UAR, probably I'll create a YAO subtitle to let it be 1.33:1

Thanks! Is it okay if I share those with a friend?
And I didn't know there were alternates for the ballroom photo! I've thought about compiling all those text inserts as an extra for the 35mm preservation, but finding them all would be a daunting task, especially without PAL video eqiupment. I had hoped the European disc releases would have had them via seamless branching the way Star Wars discs have multiple language crawls.

Feel free to share!
EDIT: forgot to mention, the LD has the old WB logo; I'm pretty sure I've seen it restored for another release, but can't remember which one (as usual).

Thanks!
Do you mean this logo? Also, is there any censorship at all? The Japanese LD I used to have put a dot over Miss 237's nether regions.

Yep, that one!
And no, no censorship at all - Japanese are notorios to censor films, I noted it also on Dobermann; we Italians are more open!

From the above video, there's apparently a different HD master of the Shining going around with the original Warner Bros "Big W" logo intact (as the DVD and BDs have the 1990s "Shield of Staleness"). I'm not sure if it's the US or shorter European version, but going by the 1st shot of the mountain it looks like a darker version of the BD master. It could also possibly be that HDTV edit Silverwook saw on AMC with the correct yellow tennis ball. |
