The easy way to tell a fake mono is the gunshots and crash sounds. They were similar in every mix up until the 1999 remix in 5.1.

Now, four releases including the UHD (DVD NTSC, BR, Kino reissue, 4K) feature so called mono tracks that incorporate the new from 1999 gunshots and crashes sounds. They are all obviously fake, as those sound didn't exist when the movie was made.

I wan't you to read this & make a comment:

"I just wanted to get this out there since no one else seemed to

As what UniSol said, the Aussie mono track on the 4K disk is in fact the true original mono mix we've been waiting for all this time. The "missing" sound effects people have been complaining about were never there to begin with.

The American dub wasn't just a redub but was an entirely NEW remix created which had different sound effects. I compared other scenes as well that people didn't complain about and in all of those instances the sound effects were completely different across both mixes.

It's highly possible the guy who created the comparison video cheated a bit and used the US dubbed audio in the non-dialogue portions of the comparison. So please, don't harass Kino about not restoring the proper audio mix all because it misses sound effects that were unique to the US dub.

Just to conclude, once again Kino did what everyone wanted and restored the proper Aussie mono track, now enjoy this fantastic transfer."

I tend to find over there that it is a sheep mentality. someone will say something without having the correct information and people will just following saying exactly the same thing without any knowledge of what they are actually talking about. I'm honest to say that I've fallen to this a couple of times over there as well.

It's a downmix, plain and simple. Anyone claiming any different is just trying either to justify they wasted 25 bucks on the 4K disc or a company plant.

Marin, could you capture the VHS tape, that we seal the deal on it? The Warner DVD has the true mono mix, and in no other place (unless I missed an australian exclusive release) in digital currently.

So can you upload some clips from vhs that we can check those audio differences? I personally trust no one who says this & that because i don't trust even my own memory.

This 4K UHD colortiming thing i think you are wrong. Yes it looks little different compared to dvd & vhs because it is remastered to dolby vision. You cannot say that dvd contains original colortiming because it doesn't. Dvd's colors are faded & otherwise limited. 4K UHD colortiming is must closer to original film prints than those vhs & dvd versions. This is the first time Mad Max looking really good in home cinema. Blu-ray was good but 4K is a lot better. And yes, i once had that Warner uk dvd....

Can i ask what setup you have for watching 4K UHD's?

Yeah that's odd because all you have to do is take 3 seconds to click on the last page and you can see that members have been discussing the new UHD audio since it came out. Also strange that this thread has been around for a more than a year and if you do a 20 second search you can find other threads about the Aus mono. Stamper just consolidated that talk here. So there is a lot of info collected on this site.

I don't know, all-in-all, sounds like a bunch of die hard fans to me.

Yes, I gathered info from as many posts as I could come up with, most of them from that forum.

I have no idea why suddenly people want this release to be perfect and the downmix to be the original.

I have to talk to the guy who did the video about this.

One thing they've mentioned is that the American dub supposedly has unique sound effects. I'm not very knowledgeable about the release history of the film, so I'm just gonna wait for someone to actually post some cross comparisons between all the different tracks. Old aussie VHS tapes keep being brought up, but nobody seems to be able to just capture one and prove one way or the other what the truth is for some reason.
Finest kind.
