This is not a binary thing like "the UHD is the real of the real" and "All other are fake".

This doesn't explain how both french mixes all have the final sounds.

Nor how each foreign dub has a different EQ matching all the way through.

It's probably a hint that there were two mixes made of the film, and the idea is to sort their history out.

LOL so I checked with headphones, I confirm the 1992 Warner Pal UK widescreen VHS features the same mix as the one found on the MGM SE DVD from 2001.

Will get to the bottom once I compile all the tracks and versions and see what more differences they have.

EDIT WDAU isn't australian despite the initials, it's an american channel.

It's becoming apparent that there was two mono versions made for the Aussie dub, one being the same as found on the UHD and airing on 80's aussie TV, the other being the one from the Warner UK VHS, then DVD.

As the Warner DVD use the same AIP produced redo (with different foley and sounds) as all the foreign dubs, one must conclude that there was two pipeline: The Australian one, and the AIP one, and probably AIP handled all foreign sales save a few countries, thus giving all the countries their own M&E track for dubbing.

Actually it makes perfect sense. As AIP created their own american dub, they had to create a clean M&E track free of any dialogue, that had all the effects in. If most of the sound we hear in the film on the mono aussie were live sounds, they had to leave them out, as they would be on the vocal track, and redo all the foley and crashes etc.

Which part of the UK VHS are you comparing? Because from what I can gather it is the same mix as the 85 TV taping and the 2001 R1 DVD

The only unique mix here is the one on the Warner DVD which is derived from the AIP mix but has at least one foley that is not present on the AIP - the screech sound when it cuts to the coffin. I would say it is a hybrid mix.

Without a print reference we can’t say for absolutely certain what the original mix is but given the evidence so far 100% the 85 TV taping, UK VHS, 2001 R1 DVD, UHD is the original mono mix.

Yes, I dived further and it is the same as the MGM disc, I corrected the posts. It get confusing due to the downmixes and missing sounds on the remixes.

I also amended my first post regarding what mono version is on the Blu-ray discs.

A print might differ in Europe vs Oz, but as every foreign dub use the american M&E track, it may be the European DVD is the only remains of how the australian version played in foreign theaters. If it's an hybrid, this will be revealed comparing it to the foreign dubs, as it would have some sections sounding like the australian version, and others sounding like the american version.

I don't think the foreign dubs are doctored, due to the differences in EQ.
