UK 2007 BD LPCM 5.1 to UHD: -334ms There's no way to know how close the BD 5.1 is to the theatrical 5.1 mix but it's likely far closer than the DTS:X remix which is the only track available on the UHD.

I had the same problem with my own rips of seamless branching discs. I had to resort to scene remuxes of those titles as these seem to sync just fine.
I'll double-check the sync on WOTW though just to be sure.

Here's a must-remux, in my opinion:
Blade Runner (1982) Dolby TrueHD Atmos 7.1 48/24 (remix) - 2017 Warner UHD Dolby TrueHD 5.1 48/24 (original "Final Cut" mix; in sync) - 2007 Warner BD The Atmos remix has revisionist changes like exaggerated sound effects.

I have also been working on remuxing War of the Worlds. Regarding the seamless branching issue, this thread makes the case that eac3to produces reliably accurate demuxed DTS-HD MA tracks from discs with seamless branching.
To test this, I first ripped the WOTW 2010 US BD directly to an MKV file with MakeMKV, and extracted the DTS-HD MA track from it. I then used MakeMKV's "backup" function to rip the entire disc contents of the BD, and this time used eac3to to extract the DTS-HD MA. I compared the two files in foobar2000 with the Binary Comparator component. It reported that the two files have differences after the first branching time at 2:41. Also, the MakeMKV audio was 10ms longer than eac3to's. So you do indeed get different results depending on which program/method you use. Taking the experts' opinions that eac3to's audio should be the most accurate, perhaps using its demux of the BD audio will produce better sync when remuxed with the UHD video. I will try this today. (Side note: I found that the US BD uses seamless branching, but the US UHD does not.)

Would you essentially be syncing the Director's Cut LD audio to the Final Cut, then filling in the new audio for the Final Cut additions? I could go for that. BTW, I confirmed that War of the Worlds sounds perfectly synced throughout using the eac3to extracted audio.

looks like the 4k of smokey and the bandit isn't getting its original mono
luckily i got ahold of the 1998 dvd.

Most recent BD of Bandit has what is reported to be the original mono in DTS 2.0. Im sure it would be better than the DVD's mono unless its like a Jaws situation where the audio was filtered and mixed differently.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
BD: DTS-HD MA 7.1 (48kHz/24bit) UHD: Dolby Atmos The BD is presumably closer to the theatrical audio, and some on AVS Forum report it has more bass than the UHD. The UHD starts 11 frames later than the BD, so you can apply a delay of 459ms to the BD audio: 1000 / (24/1.001) * 11 = 458.792 Also, be sure to rip playlist 00461.MPLS on the BD, because it has a lot of other fake branching playlists. |
