[Help] The Thing (1982) -> Best Mix?

If you all end up deciding that another mix is even better, then I'd be thrilled to hear that as well.

Yeah, the 4.1 is definitely will be there. I now have 3 versions (Shout, Arrow and German) and will see which is best or if they are even different. I assume they are the same but you never know.

I would love to include it if I have it. I need to see if one of the copies I have, has the missing parts. I remember one part was were they discuss Keith David's "carjacking days" but I don't remember where that is on the track.

I put this together really quick on my lunch break. This is look at the four 2.0 mixes I have right now. I still have to add the German BD 2.0 mix. I converted the Shout’s DTS MA to PCM to make sure everything is on the same level. I also included the two 5.1 mixes from the DVDs.

It appears that the Shout has the least energy without volume matching. The WS LD looks similar to the Shout 2.0 and the CE LD and the Arrow are very similar. Of course that’s looking at the levels and not listening to them yet. These pics won’t tell you if there is noise, hiss, noise reduction, etc. I’ll do a listening comparison when they are synced up. I’m waiting on one piece to get started.

Great comparison. What's that spike in the waveform on the CE LD at around the 6:45 mark? None of the others seem to have it.

Appears to be the sounds of the helicopter circling the camp but I'll look into it further.

And I need to point out I haven't boosted the gain/volume on the LDs yet , especially the older WS LD, which I always do to make LDs match "modern" levels. So that might causes some changes.

The German Turbine tracks fixed a few sync issues with all the other tracks available including Arrow.

"English DTS-HD Master Audio in 5.1, 2.0 & 4.1 (Original Mix)
All audio tracks worldwide had slight sync issues before. These were corrected"

I believe those are the tracks MrBrown sent me, he can probably confirm. If the 4.1 and 5.1 have better sync those will be the ones I will use assuming they are the same as the Arrow and Shout's. I remember a discussion on the sync issues. Was it just the Arrow or the Shout also? I haven't compared the 4.1 yet but I assume they are direct from Universal and should be the same. The 2.0 seem different. I will probably sync all the 2.0s.
