There is one extra cut which can be made, which is the extended edition with the theatrical opening instead of the earth opening. You can assemble it by seamless branching. I don't like the Earth opening, so I made one mkv with that much more efficient intro, just to see how better the extended would work without it. Alternatively, you could cut the Earth intro into the SE and the extended versions, making thus 3 different edits in total, still by seamless branching, if you like! Remember, the Earth stuff was the last cut Cameron made of the film, he took it out, so it was almost there.
I thought the Special Edition (not the Collector's Extended Edition) had most of the extra scenes without the added Earth opening. And IIRC, that version got a limited theatrical run in 3D, even though it never made it to home video in 3D.

That's correct. There is HFR footage in there but it wasn't used as much as it was in Way of Water.

The SE has 8mn added whereas the full earth collector whatever edition has 16mn including the earth opening, and a full plot about Neytiri's sister backstory + more new moments there and there.
The Theatrical is still the best cut, just like T2 or Aliens (though I have a soft spot for the Aliens TV cut).

I don't know the TV cut of Aliens... and, other added bits are forgettable, but I kind of like the sentry gun addition.
T2's second cut is pretty good, but the 3rd extra long version has some real boring scenes.
And as far as Avatar, it's not the worlds best story, so more or less content doesn't really poison it too badly.

Coming back to Avatar...
As far as the higher frame rate goes, I don't know if 50 fps is compatible with all 4k players or just in PAL countries, but converting 48 to 50 would be barely noticeable.
Still, 60 fps IS compatible and they really should have just gone that far and downgraded it for theaters if they needed to.
Next, I want to ask if there is anything simple and/or reasonably good for converting 2D to 3D without a professional setup.
We now have 4 cuts of Avatar and I'm pretty dang mad.
Original Theatrical, Special Edition, Collector's Extended Edition and the 2022 Theatrical Cut (which besides being upscaled (which I hear looks pretty poor), HDR'd and up frame-rated, extends one of the final scenes).
I want to convert the final scene from the 2022 cut and all the extra scenes from the Extended cut to 3D and put them into the 3D version of the theatrical cut to create an ultimate cut.
It's a shame the Extended Cut, which was in theaters in 3D isn't available. That would be useful.

They went w/ 48fps because its a factor of 2x from the source so there's minimal artifacting. Going 50 or 60 just means new frames would themselves be interpolated which makes it look odd. It's also variable, meaning, in the fast-motion scenes the frame rate increases UP TO 48fps, but in slo-motion scenes like 2 people sitting and having a conversation it was probably closer to 24fps, if that makes sense. It was a new tech that they were supposed to showcase and was supposed to be available on the 2023 (2024?) models by TCL.. of which I've heard no news about it since the announcements in 2022. Perhaps they shelved it since HFR has never taken off w/ moviegoers? I cite the 100fps of Gemini Man (still 60 on the discs) and the Hobbit in 48 which I saw and enjoyed.
P.S. Which type of 3D are you targeting for?

HFR is cool, I might stick my TV to frame interpolation just to get that feeling back on Avatar 2!
