Proposal: The James Cameron Project
#51
Just seeing your progress on Aliens and The Abyss, you really have an eye for those 'Cameron Blues' PDB - everything so far just looks 'right'.

I might be asking the obvious here, but what is the nature of the Web-DL source being used for True Lies? I saw people over on Blu-ray.com discussing how there is a HD version now on Hulu (I'm outside the US so I can't check it out myself), is the Web-DL here the very same thing? I'm not as up to date on my True Lies as I should be!  Big Grin

True Lies has been around in HD for over two decades at this point. Both in OAR and OM forms. Notable it has been on Cinemax, AMC and other US terrestrial channels and been on streaming several times. So there are a number of Web-DLs out there, encoded in various quality pulled from those sources.

TL first appeared in HD on the Dtheather DVHS but before that it was the same transfer that appeared on many DVDs in various countries. So the Web-DL transfer is well over 25 years and sadly shows its age. Abyss on the other hand is clearly a more modern scan.

I thought I heard talk of a newer TL scan showing up somewhere? Or maybe it was a newer master using the same scan.

That's been talked about for awhile. It was rumored to have been re-scanned the same time as The Abyss but hasn't appeared "in the wild" yet to my knowledge. Love to be proven wrong though.

I peeked at it on Hulu...it didn't look all that different to me from the DVHS save for it not being interlaced.

I also highly doubt the audio will supersede the DTS and AC3 from the DVHS. Maybe some day we'll get a 4K scan of it from Fox/Disnep/Crazy Jim Cameron.

Well that's great (sans DNR), now we need a kind soul to get a copy.
