If anyone who donated didn't just get a link to a test for the first four minutes of reel 1 (with audio) please PM me.

That looks very good. So basically, it looks like the 3D conversion colorwise, except refined with no oversaturation.

It sounds like the file hoster for the demo has hit some limit is giving some people a two hour wait before it allows download to begin. I'll try to look into other methods.

Would have taken 11 hours to download. No, thanks ;-)

sent out a different link type to donors that should be faster (for final results I'll have to use better methods of file hosting than these)

I started rendering out reel 1 intermediate PNGs overnight since everything seems tuned up now and adjusted based on the demo above and a few mini experiments on some dark scenes so looks good to go for general stuff but then today I see that once automated for some reason it wasn’t always applying the healing brush for the green vertical emulsion scratch lines, some frames it applied it fully, some partially, some barely at all. I’ve heard that automating tool usage can sometimes be buggy.
I first had tried outputting large files with the entire area intact at full resolution so I could then crop and rescale later so I wouldn’t need to output intermediates for both 1.85 and open matte but that actually seemed slower and taking up more space than doing two sets! It was unworkably slow. But then even with one set at a time the whole emulsion scratch thing wasn’t working well so now I’m just gonna try using After Effects (which can use Camera RAW to load the DNGs also) and output a ProphotoRGB ProRes4444XQ intermediate of the full open matte frame area and then use that instead of intermediate PNGs for JP project I think. AE has a tool that seems to work to remove the green vertical scratches and at least on the timeline does it reliably and I assume in the output as well. I’ll have to rely on PremierePro Sharpening and scaling now instead of Photoshop. I have to check to see if they added SmartSharpen to PremierePro yet, maybe not, in which case have to play with sharpening again, it might not be quite as refined as Photoshop doing it, same for the downscaling, but this might be the only reasonably realistic way to do this if the green lines are going to be removed reliably and it won’t take forever forever to get it rendered out. There may be some sections where I need PhotoShop to manually do some things and I can I can then just render out those bits as intermediate PNGs and clip the bits that need to be replaced from the ProRes in the PremierePro timeline and swap in little bits of PNG video sequences as needed. So currently trying the direct AfterEffects to ProRes intermediate out method now for Reel 1 and see how it goes. While now in the meantime working on setting up AOTC. Photo someone took of JP being played in 1993:
My framing (based on setting 1.85:1 crop and putting top and bottom edges to align with just about the top and bottom of the Universal logo intro starfield and then centering the image left and right within the cropping area so that same space chopped off the left and right sides and with left side area measurement including the whole purple bleed over mess onto the left side of the image as happens with seemingly all prints) basically ends up exactly the same, just a touch more image on L,R,B and the tiniest hair less on the top since a theater can't be quite so spot on to maximizing without running into issues with accidentally going over (although it seems they were flirting with their top edge going over top of some CGI frames, maybe just barely made it or maybe a hair over). Anyway it seems like that theater probably had it framed super precisely then since it matches what seemed a reasonable way to do it. At first I figured you shouldn't count the purple area but then you get things like the DTS disc not quite centered. This way pretty much centers it so with everything all cross-checking I believe this is how it should be. And also makes that theater seem to have been doing things very spot on and getting pretty close to maximizing area too.: Thanks given by: Daffy_Duck , riccardo4685 , Kreeep

Hopefully everything is set properly now. Assuming nothing turns up JP Reel 1 has started rendering out intermediate PNGs for 1.0 release version 1.85:1 framing version! It'll be done in piecemeal batches of frames since some have no green emulsion lines and some have them in one of a few different spots. And later on in the reel some need custom calibration tweaks for certain scenes. But finally I think JP has begun the process of getting 1.0 rendered out!
. So that'll be going on overnights and now back to finishing off (got it started for a few days a few days ago once the split reel that fit the cores arrived and before had to get a few unexpected issues with JP solved so could make best use of this time window I have before busy with other stuff and try to get stuff going before then) getting AOTC finalized and when ready that'll take over for rendering out first part of reel 1.0 version. I went with -3 black level. I think 0 wasn't quite dark enough (the current reel 1 demo level). Hopefully -1 or -2 were not better choices and -3 isn't pushing it one step.
